Julio César Uribe, former player of the Peruvian national team and Cagliari of Italy, told an anecdote about his beginnings as a professional footballer in Sporting Cristal and his firm decision to make his debut, including in Sport Boys.
The 'Diamante' was asked about his training at Sporting Cristal and his arrival at the club in an interview with Luis Guadalupe in the program 'La fe de 'Cuto'” of Trome newspaper. Uribe was seen in a friendly match in the Lima neighborhood of Barbones and at the age of eleven he began his career with the celeste club.
“My neighborhood team was called Sporting Cristal de Barbones. The Sporting Cristal kinesiologist of that time, 1969-1970, was Lucho Contreras got a match with the 'calichines' (minor divisions) and we won 1-0. This zambito scored the goal and coach Rafael Silva said 'that zambito who is there'. He called me and invited me to be part of the Sporting Cristal club where I stayed for 13 years. I reached the age of eleven and played until when I emigrated to Italy (1982). Cristal was my platform of happiness. I did (category) 'calichín', children's, youth and reserve. I didn't spend much time in reserve, as a youth I spent a little time in reserve and from there to First Division. When I was 16 years old, I would bend the navel of professionals.”
Julio César Uribe explained that at the age of 16 he was already training with the First Division squad of Sporting Cristal, but his official debut in the First Division was elusive.
“I couldn't make my debut, I was 16 years old, I made my debut at 17. They didn't make me debut, because I did the practice matches with the First Division and I was a dribbler. So, since I wasn't making my debut, I said to myself 'I'm leaving Cristal'. I wanted to play in Primera. I went to try out Sport Boys in Callao. You could go try yourself, I already belonged to Cristal, but I wanted to make my debut and I said 'I'm leaving Cristal'. Look at my character, my way of thinking,” Julio Cesar Uribe revealed.
The former coach of the Peruvian national team said he made the decision to go and test Sport Boys and leave Sporting Cristal at the age of 16. The 'Diamante' passed the test and had everything arranged to change from the light blue shirt to the pink one.
“I try myself in Sport Boys and the coach esa Zózimo (Brazilian coach) I do the practice match, the zambito trying without a card, humble. I play and Zózimo says 'that zambite' and invites me to Sport Boys. I was going to stay at Sport Boys to make my debut. I go and report to Cristal. I wanted to play, I've always handled myself. I was after dreams, making mistakes, but behind dreams”
Julio César Uribe said that his decision to leave had been made, but Sporting Cristal denied him that possibility, even mentioning that he was punished.
“I went to ask for my card pass to play for Sport Boys, I had already passed the test. He arrived and Don Lucho Balbuena tells me 'What is wrong with you? You're not going out, you have to be patient. And they punished me. While I was on the reservation, they sent me the juveniles. I started again, I went up again, but after two months they called me back to the First Division. I am among the 17 players and started with 20 minutes, then 30, until I made my debut with Alianza Lima in December 1975,” said Julio César Uribe who finally made his debut with Sporting Cristal under the orders of coach Eloy Campos.
