(ATR) Krakow's deputy mayor Magdalena Sroka has been named as the new president of the city's 2022 Olympic bid.
She was appointed Thursday at an extraordinary meeting of the bid committee following last Saturday's resignation of Jagna Marczulajtis-Walczak.
Marczulajtis-Walczak was forced to quit following allegations that her husband, Andrzej Walczak, had tried to influence positive coverage of her in exchange for cash, reportedly at SportAccord.
In taking over from the former Olympic snowboarder, Sroka is the only female leader among the five applicant cities for the 2022 Winter Games.
Sroka has held the deputy mayor post since 2010, with responsibility for matters related to culture, sport, tourism and promotion of the city. Prior to that she headed the Krakow Festival Office, where she was involved in the organisation of mass events in teh city, according to Polish media.
One of her first tasks as bid president will be participation in the May 8 video conference with IOC officials.
Almaty, Beijing, Lviv and Oslo are also vying the 2022 Games.
The IOC Executive Board will shortlist candidate cities at its meeting in July.
