On Tuesday morning, the Paris 2024 offices were raided by local police, as confirmed by a committee spokesperson to the media.

According to testimonies, this search is being held at the Organising Committee headquarters in Saint-Denis, north of central Paris.

The search took place this week after a preliminary investigation was launched in 2017. The investigation was opened by a French police anti-corruption unit into illegal conflict of interests, embezzlement of public funds, favoritism and concealment of favoritism targeting several contracts” awarded by the Paris 2024 committee. The second investigation took place last year, resulting in the current raid.

It was also known that several sites were raided by police, being the Paris 2024 offices and the headquarters of SOLIDEO among them.

The Committee came out with an official statement on this regard: “Paris 2024 is cooperating fully with the investigators to facilitate their inquiries,” it said. However it did not give any details and made no further comment after the prosecutors’ statement.

This is the third straight Summer Games organizer implicated in investigations led by anti-corruption authorities.

Vote-buying allegations linked to the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics previously removed several members of the IOC from that organization.

Japanese prosecutors this year indicted six companies, including Dentsu Group, and seven individuals over suspected rigging of bids worth $320m for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.

The searches coincided with the start of a two-day IOC Executive Board meeting on Tuesday to discuss a number of issues, including progress of Paris 2024 Games preparations.

“We are aware that there has been a search by police of the Paris 2024 headquarters today,” an IOC spokesperson said. “We have been informed by Paris 2024 that they are cooperating fully with the authorities in this matter.”

Next year’s Olympic Games are set to start on July 26 and run until August 11. The Paralympic Games will then take place from August 28 until September 8.
