Ana Botella and Alejandro Blanco meet the Mayors of the Madrid 2020 Games sub-venues.

Nine Spanish cities "willing to share and work together in a common project that is good for all of us – hosting the best Games in History".

Zaragoza, Valladolid, Barcelona, Cordoba, Getafe, Malaga, Paracuellos and Valencia share with Madrid "the privilege of the Olympic dream" through the Madrid 2020 Olympic bid – a project for all Spain, which is supported by the majority of citizens and all Public Institutions.

Ana Botella, Mayor of Madrid; Alejandro Blanco, President of the Bid and of the SOC; and Miguel Ángel Villanueva, Vice-mayor of Madrid, met with the mayors of the other eight cities to certify this common project in a meeting to outline the general guidelines and define the joint strategy for the Olympic project.

These nine Spanish cities are "willing to share and work together in a common project that is good for all of us – hosting a great edition of the Olympic Games as we did in 1992", said Botella. In her speech, the Mayor listed the reasons why Madrid is bidding to host the Games for the third consecutive time. The first reason is that 2020 is a "great project" with the experience of previous bids and the guarantee of having most of the sporting infrastructures already built.

The second reason refers to Olympic values such as effort, self-improvement, willingness to compete with the best, and team work – "all of them necessary at all times, and especially during crisis periods". These values encourage and join us, not only at a sporting level but also in the social sphere", she stated. Thirdly, hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games represents a unique opportunity to stimulate the economic activity of the cities involved and of the whole country, as well as to improve Spain’s image abroad.

The meeting was also attended by the councillors of the Institutional and International Department and the Studies Area of the Madrid City Council, Patricia Lázaro and Diego Sanjuanbenito, and the mayors of Valladolid, Francisco Javier León de la Riva; Malaga, Francisco de la Torre Prados; Getafe, Juan Soler-Espiauba; and Paracuellos del Jarama, Fernando Zurita. Present were also Fernando Gimeno Marín, Vice-mayor and Councillor of Presidency, Economy and Treasury of the Zaragoza City Council; Maite Fandos, fourth Mayor Deputy of the Barcelona City Council; Miguel Reina Santos, Sports Delegate and President of the Municipal Institute of Sports of Cordoba; Cristóbal Grau Muñoz, Councillor of Sports and Delegated Management of the Marina Real Juan Carlos I of the Valencia City Council; and Víctor Sánchez, Madrid 2020 CEO.

The Mayor welcomed Zaragoza and Valladolid – two cities that have recently joined the rest of Olympic sub-venues and that participated in the experience of Madrid 2016. "You are all essential" to make the Spanish Capital reach the first position in the run to be concluded next 7 September 2013 in Buenos Aires, where the IOC will choose the city to host the 2020 Olympics.

"In any case, what matters is that Madrid 2020 is a strategic project not only for the city and the Region of Madrid, but a project for the whole country", insisted Ana Botella.

Barcelona 92 was a great success and now Madrid 2020 is wishing to organize the best Games in History. "We want to boost our Olympic values to prove our nation’s ability to do great things, in order to link the Spain Brand to excellence, and to share the collective enthusiasm of the Spanish people when dealing with shared tasks", she stated.
