LOS ANGELES (January 4, 2017) – Olympic track star Allyson Felix has been selected 2016 Sportswoman of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.

Felix will be honored at the 12th Annual LA Sports Awards, to be held on Monday, February 27 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Competing in her fourth Olympics, Felix won two relay gold medals (4x100m and 4x400m) and one silver medal (individual 400m) in Rio last summer. Those results made her the only woman ever to win 6 gold medals in track and field, and with nine Olympic medals overall she is tied with Merlene Ottey of Jamaica as the most decorated female Olympian in track and field history.

Felix also is actively supporting Los Angeles’ bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of the LA2024 delegation, in November the Los Angeles native traveled to Doha, Qatar, to meet with IOC and other international sports officials on behalf of the city’s bid.

The LA Sports Awards are presented annually by the Sports Council to celebrate the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

The ceremony also will feature the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Peter Ueberroth, plus presentations to the Sportsman and Coach of the Year, and a countdown of 2016’s Top Ten moments. The awards banquet will be televised on Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket (air dates TBA).

This marks the third time that Felix has won the Sportswoman Award (2007, 2009).
