Justin Dowell de Estados Unidos, actual monarca de la disciplina estará en la competencia que se desarrollará en la Costa Verde de San Miguel, sede que entregará Lima 2019 a la Federación de Ciclismo, este viernes 5 de julio.
También vendrá Hannah Roberts, campeón del mundo en el 2017, en la modalidad de Freestyle.
Los mejores deportistas del continente llegarán al Perú para competir en los XVIII Juegos Panamericanos Lima 2019 y, uno de ellos, será el actual campeón mundial de Ciclismo BMX Freestyle, el estadounidense Justin Dowell.
Junto a él, también competirá en la misma modalidad del BMX, el campeón mundial en 2017, su compatriota Hannah Roberts. En total serán seis los deportistas de Estados Unidos que participarán en Ciclismo BMX Racing y BMX Freestyle.
"Tanto Justin como Hannah han tenido temporadas increíbles en lo que va del año, incluida la victoria en la Copa Mundial en Montpelier, y queremos asegurarnos de que nuestros atletas estén lo más preparados posible para los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio", dijo Scott Schnitzspahn, vicepresidente de atletas de élite de USA Cycling.
"Con BMX Freestyle haciendo su debut en los Juegos, nos complace ofrecerles la oportunidad de adquirir experiencia compitiendo en un evento multideportivo antes de los Juegos Olímpicos", expresó el directivo.
Los deportistas de BMX Racing que competirán en Lima 2019, incluyen a la actual campeona junior de Estados Unidos, Emily Hayes; así como Cameron Wood, Kamren Larsen y Sophia Foresta.
La competencia de BMX Freestyle se desarrollará el 11 de agosto, entre las 11:00 y 13:30 horas, en el circuito de la Costa Verde, en San Miguel. La competencia de BMX Racing se realizará el 8 y 9 de agosto, entre las 10:00 y 14:40 horas, en el mismo circuito de la Costa Verde. Una de las atracciones en esta última modalidad será la participación de la colombiana Mariana Pajón, ganadora de dos medallas de oro en los Juegos Olímpicos Londres 2012 y Río 2016.
