CONFEJES brings unanimous support for Annecy 2018 from the French-speaking world

Guardar

At the 33rd ministerial session of CONFEJES (Conference of Ministers for Youth and Sport from States and Governments with French as a common language), held in Ndjamena (Chad), a motion supporting Annecy 2018 was adopted by consensus.

"The Conference of Ministers supports France and calls on all its members and those of the International Francophone Organisation to support the Annecy bid – the only French-speaking bid – to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games."

A few days before setting off for Lomé in Togo, to attend the meeting of the Association of African National Olympic Committees, Charles Beigbeder, President of Annecy 2018, was delighted with the news: "It is important for us to have received this unanimous support from CONFEJES for our vision of authentic Games in the heart of the mountains, with the athletes and for the future. We believe Games in France will offer the Olympic movement an authentic global platform to promote its values. We want to work in partnership with the IOC to use Games in Annecy to benefit Winter Sports not just in one city, country or continent but all over the world.

As well as the worldwide exposure CONFEJES and its members bring to Annecy 2018, this official support is also an excellent opportunity to promote our bid to the representatives of member states and exchange views with the leaders of the many international sports organisations that partner CONFEJES, such as French-speaking international organisations the International Movement for Sport (Mouvement sportif international) and the African Movement for Sport (Mouvement sportif africain). This support is a real boost for us and our team will be doing everything possible in the final days of the campaign to bring the 2018 Games to Annecy to help benefit Olympism all over the world."

Founded in 1969, CONFEJES is the technical arm of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) dealing with youth and sport, bringing together all ministers for Youth and Sport from all member States and Governments.

CONFEJES holds a ministerial meeting every two years in one of its 43 member countries, in order to:

- evaluate the delivery and relevance of official support programmes for national youth and sports policies;

- work together on the selection and development of new activities in youth, sport, social integration and access to new technologies;

- plan a set of concrete projects in response to specific national, regional or continental needs;

- set out the actions to be implemented in the course of the following two years.

In this way CONFEJES regularly brings together all the national and international stakeholders in sports development, demonstrating the power and extent of French-speaking influence on the international scene, ensuring its promotion and recognition. In particular this group applies its expertise to the organisation of the Jeux de la Francophonie event for French-speaking countries, with a seventh round of the games to be held in France in 2013 and organised by the city of Nice.
