CACSO President Reelected for 4th Term

(ATR) Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) president Hector Cardona will continue to lead the organization through 2019.

Cardona was elected to this fourth term as president at the CACSO general assembly in Barranquilla, Columbia. Cardona also previously served as the president of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR).

He is joined in the new executive council by first vice president Steve Stoute of Barbados, vice presidents Carlos Padilla of Mexico and Colombia Baltazar Medina and secretary general Eduardo Alvarez of Venezuela.

The assembly brought together representatives from 31 countries to select the next round of leadership as well as to discuss the upcoming Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in 2018 and the future of the organization.

The 31 member countries provisionally approved the islands and territories of Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guyana and St. Martin to join CACSO.

The organizing committee for the 23rd CAC Games in 2018 also delivered an extensive report on preparations for the event that will be also be hosted in Barranquilla. The summer games are slated for Jul. 19 – Aug. 3, 2018.

Current COPUR president Sara Rosario was recognized for the Women and Sport Award she received from the IOC in Lausanne a week ago.

CACSO is one of four sub-bodies of the Pan American Sports Organization,the group responsible for staging the Pan American Games.
