(ATR) In front of an audience of 2,000 invited guests, Rio de Janeiro has unveiled the logo that will identify the Brazilian campaign for the Games, while the IOC has determined the order of presentation for the seven cities in the race.

The Rio de Janeiro logo was presented in a gala event Monday night at the Municipal Theater, the main performing arts venue in the city. The audience included about 500 athletes, many of them Olympians, Carlos Osorio, secretary general of the Olympic Committee of Brazil tells Around the Rings.

The logo incorporates a stylized version of Sugar Loaf, the city’s most famous landmark.

"The heart-shaped Sugar Loaf represents the unquestionable passion and thrill of Brazilians for sports. The exclamation mark incorporated into number 1 produced a brand that represents perfectly their expectation and excitement for the opportunity to host this edition of the Olympic Games," says Ana Soter, whose firm Soter Design produced

the logo.

Brazil Olympic Committee President Carlos Nuzman says the logo “conveys energy, happiness and also the city's characteristic of warmly welcoming all different races and cultures, just like Brazilians do. These values express what Rio de Janeiro's bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games is.”

The logo is the sixth to be revealed from the current crop of applicant cities. Baku, Azerbaijan is supposed to announce a logo within a few weeks, the last of the group.

IOC Names Protocol Order for 2016 Bids

Chicago goes first when it comes time for the cities bidding for the 2016 Olympics to make presentations to the IOC or other groups. Madrid will go last.

The IOC Executive Board drew lots last week during its meeting in Lausanne to determine the order as follows: Chicago, Prague, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Baku, Doha and Madrid.

Should any cities drop from the race, the list collapses in size, the remaining cities staying in the order in which they were chosen.
