On Monday, Kosovo Olympic Committee celebrated the anniversary of its first gold Olympic Medal, where Judoka Majlinda Kelmendi triumphed in the Olympic Games "RIO 2016".
During this event, the book "The Golden Debut" was promoted to honor of the historic participation in "RIO 2016", where Kosovo’s Olympic Team made its first ever Olympic debut.
The book contains over 120 photos in 82 pages, with Majlinda Kelmendi at the center and the main character.
On 7 August 2016, she won gold in -52kg in Judoka, where she beat Italian Odette Giufrida – earning Kosovo’s first Olympic Medal.
"7 August will be always historic date for Kosovo sports and Kosovo as the state. Now for me, this date is more important than my birthday (9 May). I hope to participate in Olympic Games in 2020 and 2024", said Majlinda Kelmendi.
A large photo from the medal ceremony in RIO appeared in the "Zahir Pajaziti" square in Pristina, where many guests partook in the ceremony, including the new Minister of Sports, Vlora Dumoshi.
Her coach, Driton Kuka said that Majlinda Kelmendi was similar to Lionel Messi in 2012, who missed a penalty. At the same time, Olympic Gold Medal was lost in the second round from Mauritius, Cristine Legenntil, where Majlinda participated in "London 2002" representing Albania.
Kosovo Olympic Committee president, Besim Hasani believes that in the future Kosovo will win other medals, but the first Gold Medal will always remain in our hearts.
