BOC names Askar new general secretary

Seef – Bahrain Olympic Committee:

Abdulrahman Askar’s mandate as Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary has

been renewed for another year, the committee announced yesterday.

Askar, who was named acting general secretary in May 2013, was officially appointed general

secretary of the committee as per an approval from Supreme Council for Youth and Sports

chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The decision was announced after the third meeting of the BOC board, headed by Supreme

Council for Youth and Sports general secretary and BOC vice-president Shaikh Salman bin

Ebrahim Al Khalifa. The board graced this decision and wished Askar success.

At the beginning of the meeting, Shaikh Salman congratulated Shaikh Nasser on his recent

appointment by a Royal Order as His Majesty the King's Representative for Charity Work and

Youth Affairs.

Shaikh Salman also congratulated Bahrain Athletics Association president Shaikh Khalid on his

association winning second place in the GCC Sport and Environment Award, and BOC board

member Abdulhakim Al Shino on recently winning the presidency of the International Military

Sports Council.

Late on, the board discussed a number of subjects on its agenda, including the approval of the

standing committees of the BOC board, as Dr Khalid Ismail was named head of the Medial

Committee, which also comprises Abduljalil Asad, Lounes Madene and Dr Khalid Al Shaikh.

The Adel Al Assami is heading the Marketing Committee, featuring Ali Qassim, Ghazi Radi,

Mohammed Sharida, Abeer Swar and Ahmed Bumjaid.

The Technical Committee includes head Ali Ishaqi and members Dawood Al Manea, Dr Hussain

Jaffer, Essam Abdulla, Lounes Madene, Mohammed Lori and Hahayt Al Sayed. These

committees will submit regular reports onto the BOC board each in accordance to its specialties.

The board also approved its constitution after the recent amendments from the International

Olympic Committee, as well as heads of the Bahraini missions to the upcoming multi-sport

Games events as Shaikh Nasser will head Bahrain’s delegation to the 17th Asian Games in South

Korea.

Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa was named head of the delegation to the Asian Beach

Games in Phuket, while the Olympic Youth Games in China will be headed by Abdulhakim Al

Shino.
