Ukrainian presidential adviser Aleksey Arestovich reported in the early hours of Saturday that the Ukrainian defense forces destroyed the Russian command post in the Kherson region, in which there were about 50 military personnel.

The city of Kherson, as well as most of the region, have been under Russian occupation for more than a month.

In the coup against the occupation troops, two Russian generals were killed and another was seriously injured.

The intelligence agency of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense detailed in a statement that the Russian command center was located near a place of active clashes between the two forces confirmed that two high-ranking Russian officers were killed at the time of the attack.

The port city was the first major urban center to fall into the hands of Russian forces after their invasion. Located just north of the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula, Kherson has been instrumental in Moscow's broader effort to control the southern territory. It is a vital link in the Russian logistics chain that extends to Crimea, allowing heavy artillery and equipment to move into southern Ukraine by rail.

In the first weeks of the war, Russia used Kherson as a springboard in its advance to Odessa. That offensive that was finally stopped by the harsh Ukrainian resistance in the city of Mykolaiv.

The area, of which there is little news since the arrival of Russian troops, is under brutal siege. According to the Ombudsman, Liudmila Denisova, 106 settlements remain without electricity and citizens are facing critical problems in the supply of food and other essential goods.

In addition, days ago, the Ukrainian Army reported the appearance of more than 800 new graves in the Russian-occupied area of Kherson, according to conclusions drawn from a satellite photo obtained by a British NGO.

The Ukrainian Army denounced the appearance of more than 800 new graves in Kherson

“At least 824 new graves appeared in the cemetery of the city of Kherson from February 28 to April 15,” said the Ukrainian Army on its Telegram channel. The message, collected by the Ukrainian agency UNIAN, is accompanied by an image of Planet Lab collected by the Center for Information Sustainability, based in London.

“The conclusions are based on these satellite images. CIR supervises several burial sites and cemeteries in the Russian-occupied part. This cemetery is located on the outskirts of the city, east of the airport,” according to the military statement.

RECOVERY OF THREE CITIES

Ukraine said Saturday that it reconquered three towns near Kharkiv, located in the east and second city of the country, while the Russian army focuses on the Donbas and in the south.

“Our Ukrainian army successfully launched a counteroffensive yesterday morning. After long and fierce fighting, our troops evicted Russian troops from Bezruki, Slatine and Prudyanka,” the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Synegubov, told Telegram.

Prudyanka is located about 15 kilometers from the Russian border.

Synegubov also said that two people were killed and 19 injured in Russian shelling in the Kharkov region in the past 24 hours.

According to the spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kharkiv remains “partially blocked” by Russian forces, which are still present mainly in the northwest and are strengthening their positions” south of the city.

In the Donbas, which Moscow announced it wants to take full control of, Russian troops are “concentrating their efforts on the area between Slaviansk and Kramatorsk,” an agglomeration located in Donetsk province, announced Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency.

The Russians “are conducting offensive and reconnaissance operations to try to find weak points in our defense,” he said.

Further south, which is also a priority target for Russian forces, they are “trying to continue their offensive on the city of Guliaipole” in the province of Zaporiyia, halfway between the city of the same name and the port of Mariupol.
