Tensions are growing in the West Bank between the Israeli Army and Palestinian extremists. On Wednesday, three Palestinians have been killed so far as a result of violence in that region.

The latest victim was identified by the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) as Omar Muhamad Alyan, a 20-year-old Palestinian boy, who was shot dead by Israeli security forces during a raid in the West Bank.

His death occurred during clashes between residents of the West Bank village of Silwad and the security forces, triggered by an Israeli army arrest operation.

According to Health, at least six other Palestinians were injured by Israeli troops.

This is the third violent incident of the day in the West Bank that results in the death of Palestinians, following the death today of a child under 14 years of age during clashes with the army in the village of Husan and that of a 34-year-old lawyer in the context of an Israeli raid in the city of Nablus.

In the case of the deceased minor, the Israeli Army reported that its troops fired at a “Palestinian suspect who threw a Molotov cocktail” at them, which led to clashes with residents of the area.

The security forces have been operating for several days in different parts of the West Bank, especially in and around the city of Jenin, where the perpetrators of two of the four attacks that took place in Israel in the last three weeks and resulted in the death of 14 people.

Over the past few days, these raids have triggered a series of armed clashes, several of which resulted in Palestinians dead, as well as dozens of arrests.

Israeli police shot down on Tuesday morning a Palestinian who had just stabbed an officer in the coastal city of Ashkelon (south), the security force reported.

“During an operation in Ashkelon, an agent identified a male suspect and began an identity check. But the man drew a knife and attacked the officer who responded quickly by opening fire on him,” police said in a statement, stating that the Palestinian assailant had died.

According to Israeli police, the attacker was an inhabitant of the West Bank city of Hebron.

The policeman involved in the attack was “slightly injured” and was taken to a local hospital.

On Sunday, Israeli forces had killed a Palestinian who stabbed a policeman in central Hebron, where about 1,000 Jewish settlers live under heavy military protection among 200,000 Palestinians.

On the same day, a Palestinian widow and mother of six children “suspiciously” addressed Israeli soldiers near Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, “suspiciously”, and was killed by law enforcement agencies.

This week, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed “deep concern” at the escalation of violence and said that the international body will continue to work with all parties to try to ease tension.
