On Monday night, the death of radio businessman Rogerio Azcárraga Madero was announced after 94 years of life. This news was shared through Grupo Formula.
Several of the members of the company, founded by Rogerio, gave their deepest condolences, as well as businessmen, journalists and politicians from different parties on the spectrum of Mexican politics.
Claudia Sheinbaum, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, Ciro Gómez Leyva, Joaquín López-Dóriga, Azucena Uresti Ricardo Monreal and even the governor of the state of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa, were among the many who gave their condolences on the death of the forerunner of the radio news.
Rogerio was born on June 6, 1927 in Mexico City, the son of Rogerio Azcarraga Vidaurreta, nephew of Emilio Azcarraga Vidaurreta, who consolidated the foundations of the Televisa company.
Rogerio studied Business Administration at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.
Likewise, due to his taste for music, he was the founder of the record label Discos Orfeón, with which he promoted the record industry in 1958. Among the people who went through their studies were Lola Beltrán, Enrique Guzmán, Toña La Negra, among many others.
In 1968 he founded what would be the precursor of Grupo Formula: Radio Distrito Federal with a station: the XEDF-AM 970. But already in 1984 it increased its number to five: 970 AM, 1470 AM, 1500 AM, 103.3 FM and 104.1 FM.
After the 1985 earthquake, the headquarters in the Doctores colony were reduced to rubble, so it was moved to Polanco. Currently, the radio company is among the first places with five stations nationally and internationally.
In 1987, with 60 years behind his back, he ventured into the transmission of news through his stations, setting a standard in the history of the media, since until that time, music was broadcast. Her programs, apart from the news programs, were dedicated to sports, spaces dedicated to women, finance, as well as entertainment, which boosted the popularity of her problems.
Among them, Telefórmula, created in 2007, stands out, which has a large audience. He has also been recognized for having trained high-class communicators and storytellers.
For this reason, the National Council for Communication distinguished Rogerio Azcárraga with the National Communication Award, which was presented to him by President Enrique Peña Nieto in June 2017. On that occasion, the businessman commented in his speech that “freedom of expression is what is important”.
It was also part of a scandal indirectly when his grandson Alexandro Azcárraga Struck, was accused of beating his partner. After being in the public eye, his grandson was “taken” out of the country, as reported by journalist Adela Micha, and his social media accounts were deactivated.
Now, after his death, his legacy remains in the hands of Jaime, Andrea and Lorenza, who are currently at the helm of Grupo Formula.
