How to get the discount for students and teachers on transportation during Easter

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) ordered a discount on public transport such as buses and trains for students and teachers. This discount will be valid from Monday 11th to Friday 22nd April.

This benefit will be carried out for vacation reasons, taking into account the period established by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP). The discount for students will be 50% while for teachers it will be 25%, according to a publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

“Providers of passenger rail services in the form of interurban regulation and the permitters of the federal passenger transport service in prime and economic services, shall grant fares reduced by 25 per cent and 50 per cent of the fares that are applicable and that are in sight from the public, to teachers and students, respectively”

It was during 2021 that the Chamber of Deputies approved amendments to the federal Roads, Bridges and Motor Transport Act so that beneficiaries will have this support. At present, a new period was opened with the aim of encouraging mobility in the country during this Easter holiday.

“The purpose of this Law is to regulate the construction, operation, operation, maintenance and maintenance of the roads and bridges referred to in sections I and V of the following Article, which constitute general means of communication; as well as the federal motor transport services operating there, their auxiliary services and transit on such roads”

According to the report of the agency, the discount will be valid on all runs of the public passenger transport service in its interurban mode and on the first and economic services of federal passenger transport. It is important to note that buses will only provide access to 8 people with this benefit per unit.

In order to be eligible for a discount, it is necessary to show a valid ID at the box office and in any case that it is not available, it will be necessary to carry a proof of study. This must have the name as well as the photograph of the holder, account number or registration number and the seal of the campus.

“The credential that accredits the discount to the customer must be original, without erasures or amendments, valid, with photograph, and with SEP stamps. In the event that the educational institution has an extraordinary holiday period, the client must present a letter from the school stipulating the extraordinary holiday period and the student's complete data together with the credential that accredits him as a student.”

Students and teachers belonging to educational institutions integrated to the SEP, as well as The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the National Pedagogical University (UPN), The Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), the College of Bachelors, free schools of law, commerce and homeopathy , Directorates or departments of education in the federal entities, schools incorporated in the above-mentioned ones.

On the other hand, seniors also have this benefit all year round, those who are affiliated with the National Institute for Older Adults (Inapam) receive a 50% discount on the price of tickets. It should be noted that buses only provide 2 places with these benefits per unit.

To receive this discount, it is necessary to present the identification card issued by Inapam.

If it is not known that any public servant does not want to apply these discounts, the complaint can be made to the Rail Transport Regulatory Agency, to the General Directorate of Federal Motor Transport or to the Federal Motor Transport Department of the Center (SCT).
