During the Easter season there are many trips to different parts of Peru and the world, however, it is not the only thing. Unforeseen and inconveniences are also part of times with a high flow of travel. One of them and probably the most common is the cancellation of flights. Faced with this scenario, how to recover the money invested if they canceled their flight? In this note we will tell you about it.

First of all, it is important to take into account what the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), the entity responsible for protecting the rights of consumers, tells us.

PASSENGER RIGHTS ACCORDING TO INDECOPI

- You have the right to demand the respective ticket if you are transporting baggage in the hold.

- To demand that the airline be liable for damage caused by the destruction, loss or breakdown of your baggage, when the event occurred during the period in which you were under the care of the company.

- If so, you will need to make the claim by filling out a document (Proper Irregularity Report (PIR) to the airline representative BEFORE leaving the customs area. Any claim you make subsequently will not be valid and the airline will be released from liability.

- To inform whoever is concerned about the lack of their personal belongings.

OBLIGATIONS OF THE COMPANY TO THE CONSUMER

- Inform you about the restrictions that the passenger must comply with when purchasing your ticket, as well as the number of stopovers of the flight or duration time.

- The airline is not responsible for valuables that the passenger carries in his/her luggage, unless it has previously informed the company staff so that it is covered by baggage insurance in the event of loss.

- The delay in the itinerary will only be justifiable in cases of fortuitous or force majeure. The company must inform passengers of the reasons and the approximate delay time.

- If the delay or cancellation of the flight is the responsibility of the airline, the airline is obliged to pay for accommodation and maintenance of passengers for the duration of the interruption.

- If you reschedule your flight, the airline must inform you about the new departure time.

MONEY BACK

All airlines are obliged to return your canceled flight by the same company. To do this, you must contact the airline you contracted for your trip. Remember that around 40 airlines operate in Peru between domestic and international airlines and you must go to each one's website and call the Call Center service.

In some cases, you will need to fill out a form for which you must have your ID card and travel ticket at hand, as they will ask you for precise information. Please note that if you do not provide or refuse the option of reimbursement, you can request the Company's Complaints Book, in the event that they do not have it or are hindered, you must contact Indecopi and file your claim.

HOW TO CONTACT INDECOPI
