After a week of protests, representatives of transport unions and ministers sent to Huancayo managed to establish the first agreements that resulted in the suspension of demonstrations for five days. President Pedro Castillo, although he did not attend the city of Huanca, is already returning to Lima to set up a meeting with the representatives of the Executive who were in Junín this afternoon.

Through the TV Peru signal, Castillo confirmed that it was suspending all its activities in the interior of the country to learn about progress in the face of the protests generated by the rise in fuel and food prices. “Immediately arriving, I am going to go to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to see how to request the report from this committee and the ministers who have been carrying out the task entrusted to them,” said the head of state.

The president was on Saturday morning in the San Martín region where he apologized for his expressions to protesters who have made their voice of protest heard in various regions of Peru. I want to clarify the country and I want to make it clear to my compatriots that, when I address the Peruvian people and in some of those statements there has been a misunderstanding and I have to clarify it by asking for apologies or forgiveness to the people; I have to do them a thousand times, because I never have bad intentions,” he said, referring to the moment when he called” paid” to those who came out to protest.

Despite the constant requests by the carriers to have Pedro Castillo present at the stadium where the outings to the crisis were being discussed, the president decided not to go there. Cardinal Pedro Barreto asked the demonstrators whether they agreed with his presence as an intermediary between the government and them, but they expressed their rejection and insisted that the president should go to where the dialogue tables were taking place.

FIRST AGREEMENTS

The parties undertake, on the part of the Executive, to resolve, issue a Supreme Decree reducing by 90% the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) for diesel fuel, petrol 84 and 90, bulk and domestic LPG by Tuesday, April 5,” the document signed by various members of the cabinet is indicated as the first agreement in the document signed by various members of the cabinet Torres and “transport leaders of the modes of cargo service and transportation of people service”.

As a second agreement, it was stipulated “to submit to the Congress of the Republic a bill to reduce the missing 10% to achieve the elimination of the ISC (temporary exemption of 6 months subject to evaluation)”. In addition, it will be requested to “reorganize the Superintendency of Land Transport of People, Cargo and Goods (Sutran) “in order to be a regulatory and preventive body”.

The discussion on tolls also found a place in the agreement signed by the government and representatives of carriers who over the past week have expressed their concern after the price hike. “Review toll concession contracts nationwide” and “review and monitor compliance with toll concession contracts” appear as two agreements.

Finally, it was agreed to “schedule at the Council of Ministers on Thursday, April 7, the technical table meeting with the union of transporters of the Junín region”, once all the aforementioned had been noted, the carriers indicated their commitment to suspend the demonstrations “on the spot and free the roads occupied by heavy vehicles”, as well as “lifting measures of force”.
