María Agüero, congressman of Peru Libre, complains again about her salary of S/15,000

María Agüero, the parliamentarian representing Arequipa, was again unhappy with the salary she receives as a congressman. Last year, he said that the S/15,000 “were not enough for him to live in Lima.”

This time, during the plenary session of the Congress, the legislator of Peru Libre, emphasized this again, criticizing the discounts they make to her salary and wondering where this money goes.

“I want to tell you, they tell us that we congressmen won 15,000 soles, how much do we get? 10 thousand, how much do they discount us and where do you go? to health insurance,” he said.

As you remember, the first time Congresswoman Agüero claimed that her salary was not enough, was during an interview with radio Yaraví in Arequipa, in September 2021. At that time, he referred to the bill seeking to reduce the salaries of civil servants.

“When I was a candidate, when they told me would you be willing to lower your congressman's salary? , my answer was: life in Lima is very expensive. If we want to do good management and represent remote places, I would tell you that congressman's salary will cost me more my money than the salary I receive. (...) My salary is not enough for all the work and commitment we have,” he said.

Faced with the questions she received on that occasion, the legislator decided to retract and regretted her words. However, he said that they did not understand the message he wanted to give about the monthly remuneration he receives for his position.

It is worth mentioning that currently, congressmen of the Republic receive 16 salaries of 15,600 soles per year, plus extraordinary bonuses.

CENSORSHIP OF HERNÁN CONDORI

This afternoon, the plenary session of the Congress of the Republic censored the Minister of Health, Hernán Condori, after approving the motion calling for his departure from the ministerial cabinet. With 71 votes in favor, 32 against and 13 abstentions. In this way he became the second minister of Pedro Castillo's government who is censored by the Legislature.

“The motion of censure has been approved. Consequently, this agreement shall be communicated to the President of the Republic, so that the provisions of article 132 of the Political Constitution of Peru and article 86 (b) of the regulations of the Congress of the Republic are complied with,” said María del Carmen Alva, Speaker of Parliament.

CONGRESSMEN REACTIONS AFTER CONDORI CENSORSHIP

After the plenary session of the congress debated Hernán Condori's stay in Minsa, several benches spoke out against the censorship of the former head.

Diego Bazán (Avanza Pais), the proponent of the motion, said that Hernán Condori's presence was unsustainable in the portfolio.

“It was not just the congressmen, but the guilds, fronts and medical colleges across the country who were opposed to Mr. Condori's presence in the Ministry of Health,” he told the press.

For his part, Congressman Edgar Tello (Free Peru) questioned the decision, stating that the censorship of Condori Machado was promoted by sectors “on the right”.

Tello further argued that the next minister should be a health professional, after noting that Condori is a doctor, unlike other professionals who have taken over that portfolio.

In turn, Carlos Anderson (not grouped), said he hoped that the new head of the Health sector will be “an ideal, dignified person, with credibility and leadership in the sector.”

José Cueto (Popular Renewal) considered that the new Minister of Health must have the criteria to manage such a difficult portfolio, since we are experiencing a time of pandemic and there is the possibility of a next wave.
