
The bicycle was one of the most popular means of transport in Mexico City (CDMX) during the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, it is also an alternative to travel in the capital without polluting the environment, so in 2010 the Ecobici service emerged, which allows registered users to take a bicycle from any cycle station and return it to the one closest to their destination in unlimited 45-minute journeys.
Currently, the mobility network that makes up the Ecobici service has 480 cycle stations and more than 6,800 bicycles, of which 28 stations and 340 bicycles are part of the new pedal-assisted electric bicycle system that was announced by the Government of Mexico at the end of 2021.
Ecobici currently has more than 170,000 registered users and the service is available in 55 colonies of the CDMX, in an area that covers 38 square kilometers. To register and use the service, interested parties must comply with the following data and requirements:
1. Valid and current official identification (national and international). It can be the credential to vote, driver's license, professional ID with photograph and signature or passport.
2. Credit or debit card of any banking or financial institution that will be used to make the registration fee and which must be in the name of the beneficiary.
3. Sign up on the following website: www.ecobici.cdmx.gob.mx by clicking on the “Register Here” module.
4. Fill out the registration form in which you will request your name, date of birth, sex and address, as well as the diagnosis of cycling knowledge

Users who contract the service will be able to select one of the two options at the time of registration, they can choose the type of access through a PIN Code or use the Integrated Mobility Card (MI), which also works for trips on the Metro Collective Transport System (STCM), Metrobus, Trolleybus and Light rail.
The rates stipulated by the Capital Government to use Ecobici are as follows:
- Annual plan: 521 pesos
- Seven-day temporary plan: 391 pesos
- Three-day temporary plan: 234 pesos
- One day temporary plan: 118 pesos
All plans include unlimited rides of 45 minutes, in case of trips exceeding this time or in case the bikes are lost, the following rates apply:
- Minute 0 to 45: free of charge.
- Minute 45 to 60:15 pesos.
- Per additional hour or fraction: 46 pesos.
- Card replacement: 16 pesos.
- Use more than 24 hours or lost bicycle (annual user): 6 thousand 509 pesos
- Use more than 24 hours or bicycle misplacement (temporary user): 1,952 pesos.

In addition to Ecobici, the CDXM Mobility Secretariat (Semovi) has made available to the general public the use of bicycle parking lots that are located in different parts of the capital. All of them operate free of charge, from Monday to Saturday from 05:00 to 01:00 the next day; on Sundays and holidays from 07:00 to 24:00.
In order to register online, those interested must have an official identification, Integrated Mobility Card and a photograph of the bicycle. Once you have these documents, you will need to perform the following steps:
1. Enter this link with your Unique Population Registration Key (CURP)
2. Fill out the form with the following information requested: e-mail, mobile and 10-digit landline telephone, postal code, mayor's office and street. On the same microsite you must select the bike/parking where you will leave your bike.
3. You will receive an email confirming or requesting correction of documents if required.
4. Once the confirmation email has been received, the applicant must appear at the bicycle parking lot chosen for the taking of photographs (of the user and the bicycle), the signing of the contract and regulations. The card will be registered for access to the bike parking with the Integrated Mobility Card.
