A new case of intolerance against a transit agent was recorded in Bello, Antioquia. According to reports released through social media, a motorcyclist who did not wear a helmet physically assaulted the official.
The event was recorded last Wednesday, March 23, near the main park of the municipality. During a monitoring and control operation carried out by Bello traffic agents, they noticed a citizen who was mobilizing without carrying all the protective elements that are mandatory,
The assault occurred when officials requested the motorcyclist, apparently, to punish him for not complying with the rules.
According to the versions that met through social networks, the man who was riding the motorcycle, got off it and confronted one of the agents. In one of the videos that surround the social networks, it is possible to observe that apparently the official, when attacked, also took a fighting position to confront the citizen; however, in none of the clips is it possible to observe the agent committing any type of aggression.
On the other hand, in another of those videos published on digital platforms, the same traffic agent is seen in Bello, with a rather strong blow to the face. The man was severely attacked in one of the eyes, which showed considerable swelling, as seen in the audiovisual material.
Apparently, the motorcyclist who committed the attack, in addition to not wearing the statutory helmet, also did not have the documentation to be able to drive up to date. The man was captured by the appropriate authorities after the altercation.
Some netizens who shared the videos rejected this type of aggression targeted by traffic agents, not only in Bello, but from other parts of the country.
Mayor's Office of Bello, Antioquia, rejected the attack on a transit agent
The mayor of Bello, Antioquia, Oscar Andrés Pérez, called on citizens to prevent any type of attack against officials who are dedicated to monitoring and controlling traffic in the city.
For his part, the Secretary of Mobility of Bello, Rigoberto Arroyave Acevedo, declared that “a transit agent is an ordinary person, dedicated to control, regulation and sanction, without omitting and without overreaching. I reject all acts of violence against our traffic agents and ask everyone a lot of respect for them.”
So far in 2022, five agents have suffered attacks in Bello, Antioquia, some even with injuries, by people who are unhappy with requests for behaviors that affect road safety. In the cases, the relevant procedures have been followed before the court, as noted by the mayor's office.
