Resident confesses: “I didn't want to be a rapper, it's not my dream”

After the “tiradera” to J Balvin with Bizarrap, the singer Residente (René Pérez) spoke about one of the wishes he wants to fulfill far from the music industry.

Guardar

Now that the waters have calmed down after his controversial collaboration with Bizarrap for the BZRP Music Sessions, in which he released a “pull” to J Balvin, the composer René Pérez, popularly known as Residente, sat down in front of a microphone to talk about one of the topics that has become the motivation for his life away from the music industry.

The Puerto Rican accepted the invitation of content creator Roberto Mtz, who owns a successful podcast and YouTube channel, to be part of one of the episodes of “Creativo”. It was inevitable not to remember his career with Calle 13, the project with which he became known to the world and released songs that to this day remain in the memory of those who still enjoy the urban genre.

During his participation in the dialogue, the interpreter of “Before the World Ends” stood up and opened his mind to reveal some aspects of his professional life that keep him active and busy.

RAP WASN'T HIS FIRST CHOICE

When mentioning Calle 13, Residente commented that he had in his mind a series of ideas that he wanted to make known and that at that time, music was the vehicle for the people will listen to your voice and use it as an instrument so that they too can express themselves.

He stated that the beginning of the pandemic led him to question what was happening in his life and why he did not return to those dreams that led him to the art world. In “Creativo” he was sincere and mentioned that he did not want to be a rapper and that this profile was not within his plans.

“When the pandemic started, I decided to do what I like best, which is not rapping, is making films. I rap as a hobby and that's how I did Calle 13 and I couldn't get out. It wasn't bad, but I wanted to make films, I didn't want to be a rapper, it's not my dream. I like writing, not being an actor, but directing. Not because of a question of credits, but I have some ideas that I would like to express visually.”

On the “tiraderas”, he specified that this is not the best he knows how to do, although he is known for the lines he dedicates when he “seeks him”, becoming his opportunity to defend himself. As he says in the subject with Bizarrap, it is not the most popular in the industry today, but it has great value in the loyal audience that accompanies from the beginning and those who fill the stadiums where it is presented although its music is not far reaching compared to other artists.

It should be noted that on social networks it was possible to learn that many teenagers and young people, between the ages of 15 and 20, did not have Residente on their radar, so some expressed that “he was a new artist” or someone who “wants to get hung up on the fame” of J Balvin when the song was released.

YOUR GOAL AWAY FROM MUSIC

René Pérez is aware that making a name for himself in the film industry is not easy, and that his career in music won't be much help. This is how he decided to start from scratch with independent projects, focusing more on documentaries and biographical films.
