Last Tuesday, through the Twitter campaign “Sélvale del Tren”, which fights for respect for the jungle, rivers and cenotes on the route where the controversial Mayan Train is to be located, he published a series of videos in which different personalities from the acting medium and influencers asked to stop the construction of the fifth section of the mega-work, including Eugenio Derbez, Rubén Albarrán, Natalia Lafourcade, Kate del Castillo, Omar Chaparro and Arturo Islas.

We are not their opponents, we are Mexican and we want life for all of us [...] President, section 5 will pass over underground rivers, caves and cenotes. A unique and the largest ecosystem in the world [...] We invite you to come and visit the area and listen to the experts,” said the celebrities.

Given this, President López Obrador referred to the issue this Wednesday morning, during his Morning Press Conference, in which he said, “It is a campaign against the project, which is one of the most important of his administration, “because they're very conservative, they're fifis.”

When questioned about personalities who spoke out against the Mayan Train and who had previously considered themselves leftist supporters, such as Rubén Abarrán (vocalist of the band Café Tacvba), the president strongly denied that this was true and argued that “they have never sought transformation of the country”.

AMLO lashes out against pseudo-environmentalists
President López Obrador described the celebrities who appeared in a video asking to stop the construction of the Maya Train, as fifis.

This is not the first time that the first president of the country has differences with personalities in the entertainment industry, because on other occasions, he has already been criticized by some decisions. However, it has not always been different from the celebrities, because when he sought to come to power, in 2018, many of them showed their support for the now President of the Republic.

In 2018, when López Obrador was seeking the presidency of Mexico, the vocalist of the rock band Café Tacuba, Rubén Albarrán, expressed his support for the now president on several occasions. However, over time that has changed.

And this is demonstrated by the current video in which he appears alongside other celebrities, such as Eugenio Derbez and Natalia Lafourcade, in which he calls to stop the construction of the Maya Train, in southeastern Mexico.

The Mexican actor, starring in films such as The Crime of Father Amaro, and And Your Mom Too, initially expressed his support for the federal president. When it became known in 2018 that López Obrador had won the presidency, the actor expressed, through his Twitter account, that those who had lost were already beginning to recognize him, and that for the common good, everyone should “talk” and demand the best. “They are already beginning to recognize those who lost. For the future and the common good: ALL to talk to him and demand the best, the different and the kind. And to follow him...”, was read on that occasion on his Twitter account.

However, afterwards the actor showed several disagreements with the way AMLO acts. In 2019, for example, after the massacre of the LeBarón family, in Chihuahua, in November of that year, the actor spoke out, also on the social network, against the president. “If you don't change the government and @lopezobrador_'s narrative to assume its responsibilities, what the hell are we voting for you? They better fully assume their responsibility and do their utmost to ensure that this does not happen again. Let it become his mantra and his goal,” García Bernal tweeted on that occasion.

Another celebrity who appeared in the video that spread on social media against the Mayan train on Tuesday, was rock-pop singer Natalia Lafourcade. At first, however, the artist also supported the current president, and even, on one occasion, declared: “You have to vote, you don't have to cancel the vote, I'm going to vote for AMLO”.

After AMLO's triumph in 2018, another famous woman who was happy was singer and actress Susana Zabaleta. She even circulated a video in which she said she was happy with the change of administration, and said that with it, culture would have more budget. “Culture is going to help us a lot, and if there is wool. As long as those who are there retire. Go fly seagull,” said the singer on that occasion.

However, in 2019, the actress said she was wrong and disappointed in the AMLO government.

Another Mexican actor who never hid his sympathy for the president, was the famous Demian Bichir. The Mexican film actor said, in 2018, that he would vote for the president, since no case of corruption had ever been proven to him.

The singer, who recently became the subject of conversation after ending her relationship with her partner, fellow singer Christian Nodal, showed her support for the president since 2018, and even appeared at the closing of the now president's campaign, at the Azteca Stadium, to perform some songs.

The singer and vocalist of the rock band Zoé, was another of the celebrities who showed his sympathy for the president when he was not yet president. The singer showed full support for López Obrador in 2018, through his social networks, as well as expressing that he would vote for him in the interviews they did with him.
