This Sunday, March 20, the Head of Government of Mexico City (CDMX), Claudia Sheinmbaum Pardo, set up a work table where she will work on coordination with Armando Quintero, Mayor of Iztacalco, in which it was agreed to improve water supply in the demarcation. At a press conference, the local president explained that during 2022 more economic resources will be provided to those mayors with the most lagging behind.
“That is why this year for Iztacalco, in terms of drinking water and drainage, we are going to support it with around 200 million pesos,” said the president and announced that, in recent years, there has been a severe drought throughout the central area of the country, despite the water collected during the rainy season, a situation due to which has received much less water in the capital than was originally supplied by the Cutzamala System.
In this regard, he noted that the Government of CDMX has worked hard to reduce water leaks that have affected the secondary water network through a sectorization program, as well as the improvement of the capital's wells, as well as carrying out works to bring more water from other areas outside the city and the Madin Dam, of the State of Mexico (Edomex).
“These are works that take a little time and that is why they have not been reflected in the water supply, particularly in Iztacalco and other areas. We are going to make a very important investment to improve all this in the distribution of drinking water, in water treatment plants and particularly in some works that we are going to do in La Agrícola Oriental,” said the Morenista.

Claudia Sheinbaum did not elaborate on the works that will be carried out to improve the water supply in the demarcation due to the electoral ban for the President-led Mandate Revocation process Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO). However, he said that after April 10 he will meet with the mayoral authorities to hold assemblies directly in the colonies to verify that water quality is being improved.
For his part, Mayor Armando Quintero Martínez pointed out that there are several colonies in Iztacalco that have suffered from water shortages and waterlogging or flooding due to the aging of the drainage network currently operating in this area of the eastern part of the capital. Among some of the affected colonies were La Agrícola Oriental, Pantitlán, Zapata Vela, Camp 2 de Octubre and Ramos Millán.

“The agreements that have been made, which will benefit these colonies this year, which I have mentioned, are frankly very encouraging, generate a lot of enthusiasm and joy that in terms of drainage and drinking water we will have a very important investment both from the city government mainly and in addition to the the mayor's office of Iztacalco itself,” said the official.
In addition to Claudia Sheinbaum and Armando Quintero, the press conference was also attended by the general coordinator of the Mexico City Water System (SACMExCDMX), Rafael Bernardo Carmona Paredes; the general manager of institutional coordination of operation and service, Ernesto Armendáriz Ramírez; the director General of Works and Urban Development, Sergio Viveros Espinoza and the Deputy Director of Evaluation and Monitoring of Urban Services Programs, Eduardo Martínez Sánchez.
