Dry Law for Carnival of Xochimilco 2022: what will be the schedules and restrictions in the mayor's office of CDMX

After two years of not taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Xochimilco Carnival returns to Mexico City (CDMX), a party that the mayor's office resumes in conjunction with the organization Ave Fénix Tepexochitl AC., however, for this edition there will be Dry Law, the organizers reported.

The mayor of Xochimilco, José Carlos Acosta, announced that the initiative was taken to enact the Dry Law in order to prevent further infections, so the suspension of activities to sell alcoholic beverages during Carnival, at all its graduations, will be in effect from the first minute of Friday, 18 of March and until 23:59 hours on Sunday 20 of the same month.

According to the Official Gazette of Mexico City, the measure applies to commercial establishments that operate such as wine shops, grocery stores, supermarkets licensed for the sale of wines and spirits, self-service stores and department stores.

Likewise, the suspension of alcohol sales in restaurants and lodging establishments, canteens, pulquerias, bars and breweries, as well as clubs, cabarets, nightclubs, discos, dance halls, movie theaters selling drinks and inns will be applied.

As well as “any other similar commercial establishment in which alcoholic beverages of any strength are sold or in places where they are temporarily installed for sale, whether in a commercial establishment or on public roads, during the Xochimilco Carnival Festival 2022″.

The Gazette warns that any establishment or person selling intoxicating beverages during the weekend will be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of the Commercial Establishments Act for Mexico City and other applicable laws.

Likewise, together with the Ministry of Citizen Security (SCC), authorities of the demarcation will ensure that alcohol is not sold in bars and restaurants, as well as to shops called chelerias, which can be installed anywhere near the carnival.

Xochimilco Carnival 2022

According to the mayoral authorities, the event will begin at 3 in the afternoon on March 18, 19 and 20, where more than two thousand chinelos and 30 troupes will parade through the streets of Xochimilco, “which represents a record compared to other years”, as part of traditional activities. An influx of about 30 thousand people is expected.

The celebration will start from four points: the Plaza del Chinelo, the Caltongo pier, the Plazuela Asunción and the Xaltocan neighborhood. The groups will arrive in the center of the mayor's office with rounds and shows that will end at 7 pm.

In addition, the authorities reported that huehuetes, huehuenchones, dancers, artists and musicians will be presented; there will also be producers and producers who will sell handicrafts, food and other objects characteristic of the demarcation.

During the three days of carnival, concerts will be held in the evening: on Friday the Cumbia Berraca will be presented; on Saturday the group Yaguaru will arrive and on Sunday Aarón and his Ilusión Group will play.
