Rayo Vallecano earn hard-fought win over Mallorca

Luis Garcia's squad succumbed to an away defeat to Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas

Rayo Vallecano's 3-1 win over Mallorca on Monday, was hard fought at Estadio de Vallecas. Rayo arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing 2-1 to R Madrid in their previous fixture. Mallorca secured a point against Elche in their previous match. After today's result, Rayo are in 6th place on the table and has 23 points while Mallorca sit in 13th with 15 points after 14 matches.

Rayo started the game well, with Sergi Guardiola giving Rayo the lead in the 16th minute. Rayo then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Alvaro Garcia, 20 minutes in. The score at half time was 2-0.

Rayo continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Oscar Trejo at the 63 minute mark. The Vermilions in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Abdon and seeing the game end 3-1.

For Rayo, Bebe, Unai Lopez, Jose Pozo, Kevin Rodrigues and Andres Martín, came on for Sergi Guardiola, Oscar Trejo, Santi Comesana, Alvaro Garcia and Isi Palazon. Mallorca brought on Jordi Mboula, Angel Rodriguez, Amath Ndiaye, Aleix Febas and Abdon, to replace Kang In Lee, Fernando Nino, Antonio Sanchez, Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta and Dani Rodriguez.

There were bookings for Óscar Valentín, Sergi Guardiola and Oscar Trejo from Rayo. For Mallorca, Kang In Lee and Brian Olivan saw yellow.

Rayo will next travel to Valencia, while Mallorca will face Getafe at home.
