(ATR)Sixty-three percent of residents who responded to a survey conducted by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) support Hamburg's bid to host the 2024 Olympics.

Hamburg 2024 and the German NOC are focused on driving up support ahead of a public referendum on the Olympic bid slated for Nov. 29.The results of the DOSB's survey signal growth in public support for Hamburg 2024, Francs Jeux reported on Monday.

DPA International conducted its own poll on Hamburg's Olympic bid last month.

The poll showed 58 percent of those surveyed to be in support of the German port city's bid to host the Games while 49 percent did not think the city had a good chance to win against the other cities in the competition. Only one-third of people surveyed believed Hamburg had a good shot at winning the hosting rights.

Last week, the board of trustees for Hamburg 2024 appointed a new chair. IOC Athletes' Commission chair Claudia Bokel, who is also a member of the DOSB board, was named to the post on Sept. 30.

The Olympic fencing silver medalist will be used by the bid to deepen international contacts. Bokel also supported the failed Munich 2018 Winter Olympic bid, which included Hamburg 2024 director of sport and international Bernard Schwank in its leadership team.

On Oct. 9, Hamburg Mayor Olaf Scholz and DOSB president Alfons Hoermann will make a presentation to the public on the city's 2024 bid.

The pair will discuss Hamburg 2024's bidding concept and venue plans as part of efforts to increase support for the Olympic campaign.

Hamburg is bidding for the 2024 Games along with Budapest, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome, with the IOC vote coming in September 2017.
