
Sochi Torch Relay
The Sochi Olympic torch relay proceeds through cities in European Russia over the next few weeks before heading east into Asian Russia. Overall, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a total distance of 62,000 km before it reachesthe opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics on February 7.
AIBA World Boxing Championships
The 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships continue in Almaty, Kazakhstan through October 27.
Elite boxers from around the world meet every two years to compete in this event.Baku, Azerbaijanhosted the 2011 World Boxing Championships.The inaugural AIBA Men's World Championships took place in 1974 in Havana, Cuba.
Olympic-Style Boxing
Nine boxers from the United States will compete in the SportAccord World Combat Games in St. Petersburg, Russia.The Games will feature 15 martial arts and combat sports such as boxing, fencing, judo, karate, taekwondo, and wrestling. Competition begins October 18 and continues through October 26.
Weightlifting World Championships
The International Weightlifting Federation will stage the 2013 Weightlifting World Championships in Wroclaw, Poland. Competition begins on Wednesday and ends October 27.
Rio Press Briefing
The first world press briefing for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held October 21 through October 23 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On October 22, the Rio 2016 organizing committee will give a presentation to the press at the committee's headquarters.
FIFA U-17 World Cup
The United Arab Emirates will host the U-17 World Cup which begins on Thursday, and ends on November 8. Mexico hosted the event in 2011.
26th ISF Congress
The International Softball Federation will hold the 26th ISF Congress October 21 through October 26 inCartagena, Colombia.
East Asian Games
The 2013 East Asian Games in Tianjin, China concludes Tuesday. Athletes from nine East Asian nations have competed in 262 events across 22 disciplines.
