AIBA Judges Dominican Case Ahead of Congress

(ATR) The Dominican Republic Boxing Federation (FEDOBOXA) faces a disciplinary process by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) that must conclude before AIBA's electoral Congress, Around the Rings has learned.

This is the reason why the Electoral Committee made "the provisional decision" to exclude FEDOBOXA from the list of eligible members for the AIBA Virtual Congress, which will elect a new president in 25 days.

This consideration is contained in a document sent on Monday to FEDOBOXA and to nine other Caribbean federations by the AIBA Disciplinary Commission, according to a source close to AIBA. The Boxing Confederation of the Americas (AMBC) also received this notice that sets dates for the process.

The disciplinary procedure has been opened from the complaint of the AMBC regarding the payment of the annual membership fees of AIBA and AMBC made by the Dominican Federation on behalf of nine other national federations of the Caribbean.

The AMBC complaint has pointed to an alleged violation of articles of the AIBA Disciplinary Code.

Originally in the official list of eligible federations published by the Electoral Committee, the name of the Dominican Republic a week later had been removed. According to the letter sent on Monday, the AIBA office forwarded the complaint to the Disciplinary Commission on November 12..

FEDOBOXA immediately sent a communication to AIBA, with a copy to the IOC, in which it requested an explanation for its deletion from the list, as confirmed to Around the Rings by the president of FEDOBOXA, Rubén García.

García said that the next day, November 14, he received an email from AIBA - which he showed to ATR - that reiterated his registration for the two-day Congress, which begins December 12.

According to the Disciplinary Commission document, the AMBC complaint, letters of protest from the involved federations and other national federations for the exclusion of FEDOBOXA from the eligible list, have been incorporated into this process.

Likewise, other documents considered relevant have been included in the file, including statements by the presidential candidate nominated by FEDOBOXA, Bienvenido Solano.

The renowned former Dominican sports and Olympic leader is part of the group of seven candidates for the AIBA presidency along with Suleyman Mikayilov (Azerbaijan), Anas Al Otaiba (United Arab Emirates), Boris Van der Vorst (Netherlands), Umar Kremlev (Russia ), Ramie Al-Masri (Germany) and Mohamed Moustahsane (Morocco).

At this time, only 20 of the 43 federations in the Americas are eligible to attend the virtual AIBA Congress, which will have 142 members out of a total of 200 members vote and debate their "survival" with the approval of major reforms required by the IOC in order to end AIBA's suspension.

Currently the Disciplinary Commission is made up of Francois Strydom (South Africa) as chair, Glenn Feldman (USA), Hassan Ali Bin Ali (Qatar) and Alexandra Monkhouse (Canada).
