ACNO WBG: Primeros Goles en la Arena Abren Programa

(ATR) Los primeros partidos en la arena del balonmano y el fútbol abrirán este viernes el calendario deportivo de los I Juegos Mundiales de Playa de la Asociación de Comités Olimpicos Nacionales (ACNO).

Estos gritos iniciales de ¡gol! se escucharán en instalaciones de Al Gharrafa Beach Venue a partir de las 9am.

La inauguración oficial del megaevento será el sábado 12 .

Los Juegos se extenderán hasta el 16 de octubre con casi 100 países y alrededor de 1.300 deportistas entre los que figuran medallistas olímpicos, campeones mundiales y otros numerosos atletas rankeados internacionalmente en las 14 disciplinas de los 13 deportes del calendario.

En la conferencia de prensa de este jueves, celebrada en el Comité Olímpico de Qatar, el Director General del Comité Organizador Local, Jassim Rashid Al Buenain, destacó la capacidad de Qatar para organizar relevantes eventos mundiales como recientemente se confirmó con la celebración del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de la IAAF.

Tras elogiar el papel del Emir de Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, el directivo qatarí consideró que los Juegos Mundiales de Playa son "otra ocasión histórica" para su país, que se encamina a organizar en 2022 la Copa Mundial de Fútbol.

La Secretaria General de ANOC, Gunilla Lindberg, felicitó a las autoridades locales por haber montado en sólo tres meses este megaevento, luego de la renuncia de San Diego, California, por falta de presupuesto.

Los competidores lucharán por 350 medallas.

Las preseas han tenido un diseño de peculiar atractivo.. Con la forma de un guijarro oceánico, las medallas incluyen grabados de vida marina que se encuentran en todo el mundo: delfines, cangrejos, corales y varias especies de peces.

Los galardones se inspiraron en la conexión del deporte de playa con la naturaleza.

"Estos juegos son simbióticos con la naturaleza, y nuestra misión ha sido crear el primer evento multideportivo que deja impactos positivos en los entornos y comunidades locales. Estas medallas innovadoras simbolizan tanto el éxito de los atletas de élite como nuestra relación armoniosa con el medio ambiente", dijo Lindberg, miembro del Comité Olímpico Internacional.
