The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) hails Team South Africa for ending the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France with an 18-medal haul.
Team SA’s excellent performance put them on the 20th position on the overall medals rankings with the Russian Federation topping the table with 52.
The main highlights were from Rynhardt Hamman, Hilton Langenhoven and Ilse Hayes who walked away with gold medals in their respective disciplines. Andrea Dalle Ave, Jonathan Ntutu, Zanele Situ and Charl du Toit added more bronze medals to the SA medal list. The final day’s action saw the men’s relay team sealing silver in the T35-38 4x100m relay in an Africa record time of 45.76 seconds. The relay team was made up of Du Toit, Union Sekailwe, Fanie van der Merwe and Dyan Buis. Buis’ performance was very impressive walking away with a total of four silver medals - three individual ones and one in the relay.
