In preparation for the development of its candidature file for the inaugural Winter

Youth Olympic Games, which is due on 19 June, the Innsbruck 2012 Bid Committee

gathered 50 of Austria’s leading winter sport experts; national, regional and local

political leaders and a significant contingent of Olympians, young athletes, cultural

talent and digital innovators to help crystallize its vision for staging a sport-driven

celebration with the appeal to reach youth communities around the world.

"The International Olympic Committee has given us a clear set of objectives that

frame a vision for global outreach," said Innsbruck Mayor Hilde Zach, "and we

wanted to ensure that the best minds in winter sport and cultural celebration in

Austria had the opportunity to provide ideas and direction to color our concepts. It

was a very productive session that will clearly help us align with the IOC's

mandates."

"The sessions will contribute greatly to the strength of the vision we put forward,"

said Dr. Christoph Platzgummer, Deputy Mayor and President of the bid. "We

believe that with its impressive array of world-class venues, its depth of

experience in having hosted 1964 and 1976 Olympic Winter Games and the 2005

Winter Universiade, it’s community of 25,000 university students and its geographic

location at the heart of Europe, Innsbruck offers the IOC a proven winter sport

platform that could deliver world-class impact through the first Winter Youth

Olympic Games—if we can match the city's resources with the right innovative

programmes. And that’s what we are striving to do."
