(ATR) Birmingham and Liverpool are the last two British cities left in the race to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games as London withdraws its candidacy.

Manchester recently dropped from the race, the city stating it would not want to host the games on its own. But theBirmingham Post reports that Manchester will help its neighbors Liverpool win the nomination.

A formal decision on the UK bid will be made in late 2017.

Australia, Canada and Malaysia have also submitted interest in hosting the Games.

Toronto or Victoria are the potential Canadian cities, while Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaidehave been named as Australia’s candidates.

Durban was to be the first African city to host the Games, but was stripped of the status in March. The Commonwealth Games Federation believed Durban's bid made no progression in governance, venues, funding and more since being awarded the status in September 2015.

Glasgow, Scotland was last to host the games in 2014.The next edition takes place on Australia's Gold Coast in 2018.
