Laureus Releases World Sports Awards Nominees -- Conferences and Conventions

(ATR) Also: Nominations open for IPC scientific awards; LawAccord featured at SportAccord 2017; PRISM founder joins 'The Academy'

(ATR) Achievements of athletes around the world will be recognized during the 2017 Laureus World Sports Awards held in Monaco.

Three-time Laureus winner Usain Bolt is nominated once again for 'World Sportsman of the Year'. Rio Olympic athletes Simone Biles and Elaine Thompson are among those nominated for 'World Sportswoman of the Year'.

Other nominations include surfing world champion Tyler Wright for 'World Action Sportsperson of the Year', Paralympic swimmer Sophie Pascoe for 'World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability' award, Olympic world-record breaker Wayde van Niekerk for 'World Breakthrough of the Year', NBA champions the Cleveland Cavaliers for 'World Team of the Year' and many more!

The jury will consist of members of the Laureus World Sports Academy including chairman Sean Fitzpatrick.

"What delights me is that we have an amazing mix of some of the greatest names in sport who have been performing at the highest level for as long as a decade, combined with some of the most exciting new faces we have seen for many years. It really is going to be an exceptional Laureus Awards next month," Fitzpatrick said in a statement.

For the first time ever sports fans will have the opportunity to join in the voting process to award the new category 'Best Sporting Moment of the Year'.More information will soon be announced.

The winners will be unveiled at the event on Feb. 14.

Nominations Open for IPC Scientific Awards

One academic researcher will have the opportunity to win the 'Paralympic Scientific Award'.

"The biennial Paralympic Scientific Award allows the Paralympic community to honor someone for their exceptional performance and contributions to the Paralympic Movement', IPC Medical and Scientific Director Dr. Peter Van de Vliet said in a statement.

Members of the IPC, sport technical committees, governing boards, standing committees and councils can submit their nominations by Feb. 24 at 12:00 GMT. Nomination information can be found here.

The award will be presented during the 2017 VISTA Conference, which will take place from Sep. 20-23..

The three-day conference to be held in Toronto, Canada intends to bring 300 of the world's leading sports scientists to discuss topics under the theme "Opportunities and Challenges in Paralympic Sport Science and Sport Medicine Support".

LawAccord Featured at SportAccord 2017

As part of Sport Accord 2017, the one day LawAccord conference will be held in conjunction with the event on April 6.

During LawAccord, delegates will hear the latest updates from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the World Doping Anti-Agency (WADA).CAS intends to make an important announcement concerning the"CAS Doping Division following the IOC Doping Symposium recommendations" during the conference as well.

Workshops examining legal strategies, digital assets and more will also be available to attendees.

"This year’s program promises to provide some interesting discussions and practical takeaways from a range of experts across the field, and is especially relevant for International Federations, sports administrators and lawyers, as well as cities," Head of LawAccord Stephen Townley said in a statement.

PRISM Founder Joins 'The Academy'

Founder of PRISM (Public Relations and International Sports Marketing) Steve Madincea will be joining 'The Academy' conference program as a guest speaker. Other speakers are soon to be announced.

PRISM has worked with international companies such as Ford, Rolex and more, assisting in turning their brand sport sponsorship's into events and activations around the country.

'The Academy' conference plans to provide insight on ways sport organizations can gain potential revenue sources, discuss new forms of promotion and ways to spread influence to others through three main themes- Revenue, Promotion and Influence.

Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy master classes with key leaders in sport as well as workshops, Q&A’s and more.

R&A Seeks to Develop Golf in Asia

As the Olympic spotlight turns to Asia for the next three editions of the Games, the R&A is seeking to increase the presence of golf in the region.

The authority on worldwide golf outside of the United States and Mexico will hold two ‘Sustainability in Golf’ seminars in Japan and South Korea in March.

"The seminars will provide a valuable opportunity for delegates to learn about the challenges that face a land and community based sport like golf," says R&A director of sustainability Steve Isaac.

The seminars will take place at Yokohama Country Club, Japan on March 13 and the Nest Hotel in Incheon, South Korea on March 17.
