Buenos Aires, Argentina, 8th March 2013: New research has shown that, Buenos Aires, the Argentinean capital city bidding to host the 2018 Youth Olympic Games [YOG], has come first in North and South America in the International Congress and Conventions Association’s [ICCA] rankings of cities that have organised business meetings and events in the last ten years, underlining the city’s standing as a world leader in first class hospitality.
The figures show that the Argentinean capital city ranks first in the whole of the American Continent after hosting 779 meetings and events in the last 10 years. Buenos Aires has also welcomed 218,631 attendees to meetings and events in the last five years, the most by far in North and South America, doubling the attendance figures of all other participating South American cities.
The research also shows that Buenos Aires has organised the most meetings and conventions consisting of 3,000 attendees or more, enjoying a 35.8% share of all Latin American events. Buenos Aires also achieved the highest average attendance per meeting in 2011 when compared with the top European cities of the ICCA rankings.
Following the analysis of this unprecedented demand for meetings and events, the Ministry of Culture and the Tourism Authority of Buenos Aires City has created several locations designed to strengthen the city’s standing as a global business hub including the opening of The Art Factory in the vibrant La Boca district. Plans are also afoot for the creation of a new conference centre with a capacity of 5,000 people, adding to the capacity of this area of successful hosting.
