Buenos Aires, Argentina: The Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games Bid has addressed Argentina’s senior level sports executives who have gathered in the Argentinean capital city for the First Sports Leaders Congress.

Buenos Aires Under-Secretary of Sport and Chief Executive of the Buenos Aires 2018 Bid Committee, Francisco Irarrazaval, welcomed the nation’s sports leaders with a keynote speech that expressed the bid’s vision for hosting the Youth Olympic Games in 2018.

Francisco Irarrazaval, said: "It is an honour for us to present Buenos Aires 2018’s vision for the Youth Olympic Games to the distinguished guests here at the First Sports Leaders Congress. Our bid is founded on the idea to create amazing sporting opportunities that benefits Buenos Aires, Argentina and the entire Olympic Movement."

"By harnessing the power of youth sport and the enthusiasm of young people, Buenos Aires, as a vibrant capital city with world class technologies, can connect a new global generation to the special Olympic spirit and help the continued growth of Olympic sport in South America – a continent that is passionately embracing Olympism."

"If Buenos Aires has the honour of hosting the Youth Olympic Games in 2018, the improved sporting facilities in the heart of the city will transform how we will be able to deliver youth sport to our community of dedicated sports fans."

"Our city is committed to developing youth sport and our Youth Olympic Games bid is at the centre of this plan. Youth sport is the cornerstone of the social, educational, and cultural growth of Buenos Aires."

Speaking about the 2012 Sports Leaders Congress, Irarrazaval added:

"The world needs sports leaders who embody the values of effort and teamwork. Leaders are people who overcome obstacles, who are optimistic in adversity and who work hard to achieve the objectives. It is a commitment of Buenos Aires to host the YOG and work with our city and nation’s sports leaders to inspire these values in the next generation."

The First Sports Leaders Congress, which covered topics such as management, motivation, teamwork, leadership, sports media and marketing, was attended by Argentina’s sports leaders, entrepreneurs, athletes and media. Cuban athlete Javier Sotomayor, the current high jump world record holder and 1992 Olympic Champion, also attended the Congress as a special invited guest and he delivered a speech about ‘Inspiration and Resource Management’.

Other Congress presentations included:

· ‘Management and Motivation’ – delivered by Javier Weber, technical director of the London 2012 Argentine Volleyball team;

· ‘Leadership’ – delivered by Alejandro Sabella, technical director of the Argentine football team

· ‘Teamwork’ – delivered by Julio Lamas, technical director of the London 2012 medal winning Argentine basketball team, and;

· A speech by former Argentine tennis player, Guillermo Vilas, winner of 62 ATP tournaments including a world-record of 46 on clay court.
