(ATR) The firm which came up with the logo and branding for the Athens Olympics has been named to do the same thing for the London Olympics, according to an announcement from the firm.

International branding expert Wolff Olins was selected over a number of top U.K. design firms in a tendering process that started last year soon after London was chosen as the 2012 Games host.

The firm will design logos for both the Olympics and Paralympics.

On the company website, Wolff Olins describes itself "as in the reinvention business".

"We are at our best working with visionary individuals and ambitious enterprises. We help them reinvent their organisations, and the markets they work in, in order to achieve sustained growth," says the company.

Olin Wolff's Olympics experience includes the Athens Olympics, including development of the olive wreath logo for the 2004 Games and the "embracing the world" branding position.

According to a news release announcing its work, Wolff Olins says it will begin work on the London logo with "a brand positioning exercise, looking at all the design requirements for the build up to the Games."

Development of the logo will follow the branding work, keeping in mind the "huge variety of usages at sporting competition venues across the UK, dressing across the city of London and other cities where events are being held, on merchandising and sponsor programmes, on vehicles and uniforms and more."

The company says the logo will be launched late this year or early in 2007.

Founded in 1965, Wolff Olins is based in London with offices in San Francisco, Barcelona, New York and Tokyo. The firm is one of the companies in the Omnicom group, the huge advertising and marketing firm headquartered in New York.
