Over 300 boxers are registered to compete in the Pathway to Glory Olympic Trials Qualifier II tournaments next week in Baltimore and Philadelphia. More than 270 men are slated to box for Olympic Trials berths September 7-12 in Philadelphia with nearly 70 females vying for the final Olympic Trials for Women’s Boxing spots September 7-11 in Baltimore, Md.

The Olympic Trials Qualifier II for women is the final opportunity for female Olympic hopefuls to earn spots in their Olympic Trials competition next month in Memphis. The top three finishers in each of the three women’s Olympic weight classes in Baltimore will clinch the final spots in the Olympic Trials for Women’s Boxing. With Olympic dreams on the line for all of the competitors and stacked rosters in every weight division, the competition is guaranteed to be intense from the opening bell.

2012 Olympian Queen Underwood (Seattle, Wash.) is looking to return to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro but it will be no easy feat in the talent-laden lightweight division. 2012 featherweight world champion Tiara Brown (Fort Myers, Fla.), fellow 2012 Olympic Trials participant N’Yteeyah Sherman (Barberton, Ohio) as well as former youth stars Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) and Samantha Kinchen (Lexington, Ky.) will all be challenging Underwood for her spot.

Baltimore’s own multi-time national champion and world championships medalist Franchon Crews (Baltimore, Md.) will face stiff competition from 2014 heavyweight national champion Krystal Dixon (New Rochelle, N.Y.), youth champions Iesha Kenney (Alexandria, Va.) and Martha Fabela (Oakland, Calif.) as well as 2014 USA Boxing national team member Heidi Henriksen (St. Louis Park, Minn.) in middleweight action.

The tournament’s smallest weight class will feature a mixture of established veterans and junior and youth stars moving up to the elite division. Former two-time featherweight national champion Melissa Parker (Fort Carson, Colo.) is now campaigning at the flyweight division and she is looking to clinch her first Olympic Trials berth in Baltimore. 2013 Junior World Champion Caitlin Orosco (Anaheim, Calif.) will reunite with her junior world teammate Nysja Barrientes (Las Vegas, Nev.) and could have a rematch from the 2015 Youth National Championships with youth titlist Kristyn Juarez (Los Angeles, Calif.) at the Olympic Trials qualifier.

The men’s rosters are not only deep in number of competitors but also rich with talented athletes chasing their Olympic dream. A trio of two-time national champions will reunite in Philadelphia with light flyweight Leroy Davila (Princeton, N.J.), flyweight Malik Jackson (Washington DC) and middleweight Leshawn Rodriquez (Medford, N.Y.) all looking to clinch their Olympic Trials berths.

The tournament will also showcase some of the strongest youth boxers aiming to move successfully in to the elite division. Youth Olympic Games gold medalist and junior and youth world champion Shakur Stevenson (Newark, N.J.) hasn’t claimed a national title in the elite division yet, but he is looking to change that in Philadelphia. Two-time youth national champion Charles Conwell (Cleveland, Ohio) and reigning youth national champion and hometown boxer Mark Dawson (Philadelphia, Pa.) will also compete for an Olympic Trials berth in Philadelphia.

Two more area favorites and National Golden Gloves champions will vie for a berth in the Olympic Team Trials for Men’s Boxing. 2014 titlist Christian Carto (Depftord, N.J.) and newly crowned light welterweight champion Jaron Ennis (Philadelphia, Pa.) will be in action in Philadelphia as well. A third National Golden Gloves champion and his family will travel north from the deep south to chase his Olympic dream. 2014 lightweight titlist Maliek Montgomery (Macon, Ga.) and his two brothers Mikhail and Michael are all slated to compete in Philadelphia.

The male athletes will arrive in Philadelphia on Saturday for registration prior to the mandatory general weigh-in and tournament draw on Sunday at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia Stadium. Tournament competition will begin on Monday with sessions and noon and 6 p.m., and preliminary action will continue in two sessions daily through Thursday. Semifinal competition will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and the event will conclude with final round bouts on Saturday at 4 p.m. A live stream of the Olympic Trials Qualifier II for Men can be purchased by going to http://www.usaboxing.org/ and clicking on the Watch Live tab.

The Olympic Trials Qualifier II for Women competitors will arrive in Baltimore on Sunday before their general weigh in, tournament draw and start of competition on Monday. Women’s preliminary action will begin take place at 6 p.m., Monday-Wednesday at the Baltimore Harbor Hotel with complimentary tickets for those sessions available at www.baltimoreboxing.com. Semifinal competition will take place at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday and final round action with tickets priced at $15 will begin at 8:15 p.m. on Friday’s championship bouts will begin at 8:15 p.m., and tickets for the finals are only $25. The Olympic Trials for Women’s Boxing will take place October 26-31 in Memphis, Tenn., in conjunction with the final Olympic Trials Qualifier for Men.
