CGF Athletes Advisory Commission launch new strategy

The Commonwealth Games Federation have CGF Athletes Advisory Commission have launched a new strategy to ensure the athletes' voice remains at the heart of Commonwealth Sports Movement decisions up to Birmingham 2022 and beyond.

The CGF Athletes Advisory Commission, which was established at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, serves as the key link between athletes and the CGF.

The Commission features seven highly distinguished athletes who represent the six regions of the Commonwealth.

The new strategy outlines the commitment of the CGF Athletes Advisory Commission to ensure Commonwealth athletes are inspiring leaders, agents of change, advocates for integrity and ambassadors for respect, impartiality and non-discrimination.

The strategy focuses on four key pillars which are:

--Deliver Inspirational Sporting Moments

--Nurture a Powerful Sporting Movement

--Activate Transformational Partnerships

--Realise Our Collective Impact

CGF Athletes Advisory Commission Chair Rhona Toft said: "The new CGF Athletes Advisory Commission Strategy is hugely important as it clearly outlines how athletes will play a leading role in shaping all Commonwealth Sports Movement decisions.

"Our Commission is focussed on supporting our athletes as inspiring leaders across the Commonwealth while looking to ensure an unforgettable Commonwealth Games journey and experience for every competitor from every nation.

"The Commission is hugely excited about working with all Commonwealth athletes to ensure their voice is heard at the decision-making table and the new strategy provides a fantastic roadmap to help us achieve our key objectives."

About the CGF Athletes Advisory Commission

The seven members of the Athletes Advisory Commission are:

Rhona Toft (Chair): Scotland, Hockey, 1998, 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games, Scotland’s most decorated and leading hockey goal-scorer of all time;

Natalie Du Toit (para-sport representative): South Africa, Swimming, seven-time Commonwealth Gold medallist at 2002, 2006 and 2010 Games;

Dr Nicole Forrester: Canada, Athletics (High Jump), Commonwealth Gold medal (2010) and Bronze (2002);

Colin Gregor: Scotland, Rugby Sevens, 2006 and 2014 Games and Captain from 2009-2014;

Lechezdani Luza: Botswana, Boxing (51kg), 2006 and Commonwealth Silver medallist at 2002 Games;

Alison Shanks: New Zealand, Track Cycling, 2006 and Commonwealth Gold medallist (3000m Individual Pursuit) at 2010 Games;

Brendan Williams: Dominica, Athletics (High Jump), 2010 and 2014 Games.
