(ATR) The Spanish Olympic Committee is taking steps to sort out plans to bid for Winter and Summer Olympics in meetings with mayors of Jaca and Madrid.

On Tuesday, Spanish Olympic Committee President Alejandro Blanco meets with Madrid Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon to discuss a bid for the 2016 Summer Games.

Blanco says Madrid "is a great site and had a great project" for the 2012 Olympics, with strong international support. But Blanco says he wants to hear about the city?s interest in mounting another bid from Madrid mayor himself.

The COE president also says the Spanish committee also needs to hear from any other cities which may also be interested in launching a bid.

Meanwhile, Blanco turned his attention to Jaca?s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics with a meeting Nov. 4 with Jaca mayor Enrique Villaroyal.

While the COE submitted an application on behalf of Jaca in July, the committee initially rejected plans for a new bid from Jaca, which has been unsuccessful in two past attempts.

Villaroyal told Blanco that this latest bid is different from the past now that the Aragon capital of Zaragoza, about 130 km south of Jaca, is included as part of the plans. Zaragoza would be the site of the ice events for the Games, while Jaca would host the outdoor events.

Villaroyal also expressed the hope that two executives from Madrid?s 2012 bid, Antonio Fernández Arimany and Carlos Martin would soon be joining the Jaca campaign. Currently the Jaca bid has no leadership structure outside of the mayor?s office.
