Debanhi Escobar case: route and key points in the disappearance of the young woman in Nuevo León

Authorities in Nuevo León confirmed that at the Nueva Castilla motel, a few meters from the place where the last photo of Debanhi Escobar, who disappeared since April 8, was taken after attending a party, they found the body of a woman in a cistern inside a disused area of this place.

In different statements, the State Attorney, Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero, did not confirm that this body belonged to the 18-year-old girl, so he asked to wait for the results of genetic analysis to have complete certainty of identity.

Regardless of all versions of the case, many doubts arose. Among all of them was that of the possible route that Debanhi Escobar followed since her departure from the party she attended accompanied by her friends, and where she was seen alive one last time.

It was on April 8 when the young woman attended a party at Quinta Venecia, a property located between Via de Numancia and Via de Montijo streets, in the Nueva Castilla neighborhood. However, as soon as it became known about the case, the place clarified that from Thursday, April 7 to Sunday, April 10, so it dismissed having hosted a party on the day of the disappearance.

According to their cousin, Ivonne, Alejandra and Jessari, friends of Debanhi, claimed that she had behaved aggressively inside the party, so they decided to leave and send a trusted driver, who works in a taxi per application.

The young woman agreed to get into the car, but the driver reported that the girl was still angry and began to grope, so he decided to lower her from the car at kilometer 15 of the road to Nuevo Laredo, a road popularly known as the death road due to the number of missing persons she has accumulated, and he took a photograph as proof that he had left it there.

It was from this point on that the authorities and relatives began to have many doubts, as the versions began to contradict each other and even began a campaign on social networks to to point out Debanhi's friends as the ones responsible for her disappearance for “abandoning” her on this stretch of road.

However, days later it was revealed that police elements from Nuevo León guarded the exterior of Alcosa, a cargo transport company where he was last seen, according to some videos in the hands of the Prosecutor's Office.

This place is located a few meters from the Quinta where Debanhi's party was supposedly held, and in front of the place where the taxi driver left it. Escobar decided to go to that place to ask for help, but the footage did not reveal that he came out of there on his own foot.

Security cameras from a hotel located on the road captured the moment when the young woman got out of the car that was allegedly taking her home. Then she was seen crossing to the other side of the road, as she traveled at least 20 meters to the transport company.

Debanhi would have decided to walk towards that direction because, according to the area explored from Google Maps, there is no property on the other side of the road, since the nearest street is several meters away.

There is no physical evidence that has shown Debanhi enter the Nueva Castilla motel, located near the premises of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), where the body of a woman was found on the night of April 21, although versions of the authorities indicated that if it were her, she would have fallen by mistake.

As soon as his father, Mario Escobar, was informed of the discovery, he went to the place and asked the agents who were already there, as this property was thoroughly reviewed, according to the Prosecutor's Office, since day one of the investigation, although nothing was reported at that time.

Although the prosecution asked for restraint over the information, his dad had a brief meeting with the media outside the motel. He said he was angry that he was wrong to “believe in the Prosecutor's Office”, so he apologized to his family.

He later assured that “there are guilty, yes, they must pay, yes, both involved and people of the Prosecutor's Office, publicly I say so”, and then he revealed that the result was not what his heart and that of his wife asked for, wanted and demanded.

“My daughter is dead and I don't know what to do. I am upset because I was wrong, I believed in the Prosecutor's Office, I repeat, in the Prosecutor's Office,” he said with tears in his eyes.
