The journey of a group of migrants across the country ended in tragedy, as the van they were traveling in capsized and fell from a bridge on the Veracruz-Córdoba highway.

According to the first versions, the driver of the van would have lost control of the vehicle, apparently due to a flat tire, and had rushed into a ravine on the Rio Seco 1 bridge.

The mishap occurred at kilometer 3+500 of the highway where the mishap was recorded. Preliminary reports indicated that at least 16 Honduran migrants were traveling there. Four of them were reported as serious in different hospitals in Córdoba.

Paramedics from Capufe, Red Cross, Cuitláhuac Regional Firefighters arrived at the site, who provided first aid to the injured who were sent to hospitals in Córdoba.

Meanwhile, State Police cordoned off the place and reported to the competent authority. The Sonora Prosecutor's Office became aware of the accident around 08:40am, but preliminary reports indicate that the tragedy occurred around 07:00 hours, near a military review point. The driver of the van ran away.

The victims with injuries were identified as Erica, 32; Elsa, 18; Gladys Aracely, 25; Astria Gabriela, 25; Lidia Naomi, 19; Margarita, 19; Helen Briseida, 17; Lydia, 32; Lydia Sofia, 32; and Maria, 27, who were transferred to receive medical care to Benjamin Hill and Hermosillo.
