This Monday, the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) confirmed through a statement the departure of Reinaldo Rueda from the bench of the national team after failing in his goal to qualify for the Tricolor to Qatar 2022.

Since he began his second cycle at the helm of the Colombia national team, Reinaldo Rueda has led a total of 22 matches with a record of seven wins, 10 draws and five losses.

Several players from the national team dedicated words of thanks to the vallecaucano through their social networks, once it was announced that they will not continue in the technical direction of the absolute team.

For now, other references such as Radamel Falcao, James Rodríguez, David Ospina, Yerry Mina, among others, have not commented on the departure of Reinaldo Rueda from the Colombia national team.

“The Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation at its regular meeting held today, agreed with Professor Reinaldo Rueda to disassociate himself from the position of technical director of the Colombian Men's Senior Team, as well as its coaching staff.

In this regard, we express to Professor Rueda and his collaborators our sincere wishes for success in their career and in their personal projects, without first expressing our appreciation for their dedication and work.

The Executive Committee will analyze and evaluate the existing or existing options, in order to determine who should assume the technical direction of our Colombia Men's National Team in the near future.”

Now we will have to wait what direction the Colombian Football Federation will take in the decision to choose the new coach who will take the reins of the coffee team in the face of the upcoming challenges such as the Copa America and the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Names such as Argentina's Marcelo Bielsa, Ricardo Gareca, Luis Fernando Suárez, Juan Carlos Osorio and current Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui sound in the deck of candidates.
