After Armando Monte r, leader of the National Labour Front, told the media that if necessary, opposition legislators would be prevented from entering the Chamber of Deputies in order to approve President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's (AMLO) Electricity Reform, the opposition benches spent the night in San Lazaro.

We are not carried away, nor does anyone give us anything, we are here with our own resources and because we are convinced that the Electricity Reform represents many benefits for all Mexicans,” Armando Monter declared on April 16.

Following Monter's remarks, legislators from the National Action Party (PAN), the Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution (PRD) documented their arrival in San Lázaro for the session on Sunday, April 17, where the Electric Reform will be debated and voted on from 10:00 a.m.

The PRI arrived around 18:00 hours on April 16 on two buses. While the blue and whites arrived separately, as did the Perredistas.

After these events, a hashtag was positioned on the social network Twitter with which netizens mocked the actions of opposition legislators. #PijamaLegislativa was positioned among the trends of the platform after deputies shared photos and videos of their arrival in San Lazarus.

However, recently, the National Labour Front assured that it will not block access to the Chamber of Deputies, although they made it clear that they would demonstrate on the main avenues of the country's capital “for the struggle of the people of Mexico.”

“We are not going to obstruct the entry of a legislator. If any legislator were to do things wrong next Sunday, to betray the people, the people will have to rise,” warned Armando Monter.

It is worth mentioning that the session originally scheduled for last Tuesday, April 12, was surprisingly postponed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, after the opposition publicly stated that he would vote against it.

It is understood that the alliance of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) has 277 legislators, for whom it would need the favorable vote of 57 deputies from other parties to achieve the 334 representing two-thirds of the total in the lower house (500 seats), or refrain from to vote or not to participate in the session in order to give the mathematical triumph to López Obrador's initiative.

According to the regulations of Congress, the minimum quorum in the Chamber of Deputies is 251 members, which would be considered legal to open a session and what is resolved therein.

In addition, on April 9, PRI Carlos Miguel Aysa Damas made public his vote in favor of the reform and even called on his teammates on the bench to join.

His turn led to his comrades calling him a “traitor”, as Alejandro Moreno, the PRI's national leader, hinted that his vote in favor will be in the interest of holding office, since his father, Carlos Miguel Aysa González, former governor of Campeche, was nominated as Mexico's new ambassador to the Dominican Republic during the month of January.
