In the midst of grief at learning about the death of his father, Freddy Rincón, fellow footballer Sebastián Rincón asked the person driving the van in which the Colossus of Bonaventura crashed to respond. The striker of Club Atlético Barracas Central assured that his dad was not the one who crashed and that in recent days unfair speculations have been made about the events.
“I hope you open up. Let's hope God does justice, that the prosecution does its job, all I can say is that my dad wasn't driving. That leaves me very calm, because in the face of false accusations the truth will come to light,” said Sebastián Rincón.
The accident that caused the death of Freddy Rincón occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 11, when the van in which the former footballer crashed was rammed by a feeder of the MIO transport system. According to the authorities, this happened because whoever was driving the vehicle missed a red light located on race 34 with fifth street in Cali.
So far the authorities have not provided details about the person driving the van and investigations are under way whether Rincón was behind the wheel, as there were indications that he would not be responsible. One of the main facts to think this is that the vehicle involved in the accident is in the name of Thomas Humberto Díaz Valencia, a mathematician by profession who does not have an approved driver's license.
It has also been highlighted that other legal problems weigh on the van, such as that its Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT) is expired and it has reports of several mobility violations.
The company Seguros Generales Suramericana S.A. was the last to issue the SOAT to the vehicle and it would have expired since December 1, 2021. On the other hand, the mechanical technical review was in force and was issued by the Automotive Diagnostic Center, Buenatmospheres, in Buga (Valle del Cauca).
As for the fines, there are four comparenda weighing on this van, totaling 4,379,000 pesos. The most recent was imposed on March 14, precisely because it did not have the SOAT up to date. The other matches have been for exceeding the speed limits.
It should be noted that in the van, the Colossus of Bonaventure was accompanied by two women. It was reported that they are out of danger and it is hoped that both will be able to collaborate with the investigation so that it progresses quickly and thus clarify who would be responsible for the accident in which the Colombian football legend died.
In the meantime, Clara Jazmín Beltrán, mother of Jorge Eduardo Muñoz, the MIO driver who crashed the van that Rincón was in, said that her son is not guilty and asked that he not be tried.
Half an hour before the end of April 13, Cali's Imbanaco Clinic confirmed the news that football fans feared: the death of one of the glories of national football, Freddy Rincón. The news came after three days in which the athlete was hospitalized in critical condition after the traffic accident in which he was involved.
National and international football stars, sports fans and politicians have lamented the news. In Cali, where they are very fond of Rincón for having played in America, they decreed three days of mourning and the Pascual Guerrero Stadium was arranged to rest in the burning chamber. In addition, the local mayor's office assured that the family of the 'Colossus' is receiving all the support from its administration.
“I have decreed three days of mourning in our city in the face of the painful death of Freddy Rincón. I have guided the Secretariats of Government, Security and Justice, and Communications to make themselves available to the family to organize their funeral,” the president in Cali posted on his official Twitter account.
