CDMX: how to get up to 100 thousand pesos to replace your taxi

Recently, the Government of Mexico City (CDMX) announced that economic support will be granted to taxi drivers seeking to renew their transport units, as long as they have more than 10 years of service. According to the Mobility Secretariat (Semovi), monetary incentives can be up to 100,000 pesos and will be given to taxi drivers through the Trust for the Promotion Fund for Public Transport Financing.

If taxi drivers want to purchase a highly efficient vehicle, the support will be 75,000 pesos; while if they want to buy a hybrid car, they will be able to get 100,000 pesos. In addition, taxi drivers who want to renew their transport units will be given an additional 20,000 pesos for the installation of accessibility devices for people with limited mobility.

It should be noted that this support also applies to those who lost their unit in the event of a traffic accident or theft and that the call for this program will be available from April 13 to July 12. To begin registration, the website https://app.semovi.cdmx.gob.mx/sustitucion-2022 will be enabled, in which the following data relating to vehicles and owners must be entered:

- License plate number

- Serial number

- Full name

- Grant number

- Circulation card number

- Email and mobile phone number

- Place and date of birth

- Sex

- Age

- Ethnicity

- Maximum degree of studies

- Residency time in Mexico City

- Domicile

Once all these fields have been filled, applicants must choose one of the three modalities:

I. “Financing”

II. “Financial support”

III. “Financial Support and Financing”

The documents to be requested from the grantees are as follows:

1. Proof of payment of current tenure rights plus the previous four

2. Proof of payment from Revista for the last 2 years

3. Valid official identification

4. Unique Population Registration Key (CURP)

5. Proof of address from the dealer

6. Concession title

7. Vehicle invoice in the name of the applicant

8. Circulation card of the registered vehicle for the provision of the service and/or temporary withdrawal

9. Report of theft or loss, filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office or Prosecutor's Office in case the financing is to obtain another car for this reason

10. Photos of the vehicle inside

11. Photographs of the plates

12. Photograph of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

The documents mentioned above must be scanned and saved in PDF format, with a resolution of 256 dpi or JPG with a weight of less than 3 megs. Once the digitized documentation is ready, it should be uploaded to this website.

According to the Government of Mexico City, there are currently 25,561 active units that provide the “Taxi” service in the capital 10 years or more; and 8,807 units discharged due to theft or loss. Therefore, it is estimated that a potential population to receive the financing is 34 thousand 368 taxi units.

This will be necessary to receive “Financing” from the Financial Institutions supported by Nacional Financiera as well as to receive the corresponding “Economic Support”. From that moment on, the “Applicants” may, if they wish, modify the form of support they request, so that this information is definitively recorded in the “Letter of Authorization”.
