Several dozen cases of salmonellosis were detected in Europe and suspicions converge in Kinder chocolate products manufactured in Belgium and recalled from sale by the manufacturer Ferrero.
The latter called for the return of Kinder products manufactured at its Arlon facilities in Belgium, which were marketed in France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Germany and Sweden, he told AFP on Tuesday the Ferrero brand.
“Although none of our Kinder products launched on the market have tested positive for salmonella and we have not received complaints from consumers, we take this very seriously as consumer care is our top priority,” the company said.
In the United Kingdom, 63 cases of salmonella contamination were recorded, a spokeswoman for the British health authorities told AFP.
In France, 21 patients were reported by the National Salmonella Reference Centre of the Pasteur Institute, 15 of whom reported having consumed the Kinder products in question, according to Santé Publique France.
The average age of cases is 4 years.
Food toxi-infections caused by salmonella result in gastrointestinal disorders, often accompanied by fever within 48 hours of consumption.
The international media explained that it has been decided to voluntarily withdraw the following products, which constitute the equivalent of hundreds of tons of chocolate: Kinder Surprise (20 g and 100 g), packs of one, three, four and six, expiration date between the end of June and the end of October 2022.
Kinder Schoko-Bons, expiration date between the end of April and the end of August 2022. Kinder Mini Eggs, expiration date between the end of April and the end of August 2022.
Kinder Happy Moments: 193g Pack, 150g Pack, 133g Plush, 198g Bucket, Expiration Dates End August 2022
Ferrero also advised that a person who has purchased one of these products not to consume it. Keep it and contact your care team.
