While the issue of insecurity in Colombia is something that is talked about daily and for much of the day, other crimes such as homicide do not give up, because given the most recent report issued by the National Reference Center on Violence (CRNV), the figures do not seem to be encouraging compared to the previous year (2021).

According to the data provided, determined in the months of January and February, both 2021 and 2022, homicides increased significantly, from a total of 1,778 the previous year to 2037 in 2022, with men once again having the highest number of violent deaths, with 1,849, as opposed to 188 women under this manner of death.

Other forms of death that were recorded in the bulletin were due to transport incidents with a total of 1141, accidents involving 491 victims and suicide that also increased in number in the first two months of this year with 397, as shown in the preliminary figures in the following image.

Meanwhile, the percentage increase in these deaths, taking as a reference in 2021, remains like this for the first two months of 2022: homicides rose by 14.52%, due to transport incidents 9.19%, accidents by 10.59% and suicide increased by 3.66%, which leaves a pain.

The bulletin also showed the cities that have most reported the highest number of violent deaths, being the city of Bogotá where the figures skyrocket in accidents, suicide and transport events, since in homicide it totaled 134 eventualities, being surpassed by Santiago de Cali with 160.

Cali is precisely the second city with the highest number of violent deaths in the 4 categories that have been mentioned. Then it is followed by the capital of Antioquia, Medellín with 144, Cartagena de Indias with 109 and very close Barranquilla with 91 cases.

On the other hand, capitals such as Leticia, Mitú, Mocoa, Puerto Carreño, San Andrés, Tunja and Yopal showed low figures in all four aspects, counting between 1 and 11 violent deaths at most.

People between the ages of 18 and 28 are those who have mostly been reported for homicide with more than 800 cases, while between the ages of 29 and 59 the figures are worrying since 1031 were recorded, with this life cycle being the one with the highest numbers in the different ways that were evidenced as a cause of death, including suicide involving 167 victims.

Violence continues to be a scourge that suffocates Colombia, because in the study carried out by the Center for the National Registry of Violence, it is realized that in terms of domestic violence by context and sex, data were also recorded above what was January and February 2021.

In one specific case, the number of women who experienced intimate partner violence between January and February 2021 was 3742, while in those same two months of 2022 the figure stood at 4914. The picture should draw the attention of the authorities on several fronts such as violence, but also with regard to mental health given the rise in suicide cases that occurred.
