As of December 2021, the Anti-Drug Brigade of Canelones, the department bordering Montevideo, began with the investigation of a drug outlet in a city called Barros Blancos, with a population of 31,650 inhabitants.
There, police investigators determined that where criminal activity was suspected, access was difficult because the only entrance was a road parallel to a water glen.
The location of suspicious homes made it difficult for police officers to detect the movements of criminals, reported the Ministry of the Interior in Uruguay.
Finally, three interventions were carried out in three houses located in the city, where the police entered and managed to arrest four people.
At the same time, the troops were driving a drone that allowed them to get a broader picture of what was happening during the procedure. In these images, which were later shared by the Ministry in a video, they could see that two people were escaping through the bottom of the houses and, thanks to this, they were arrested.
In the proceedings, the Police seized three stones of base paste equivalent to 150 doses, another 22 doses of the same drug, a marijuana plant, a 38-caliber revolver with five cartridges, three cell phones and about 10,000 Uruguayan pesos, equivalent to 232 US dollars.
In total, six people were arrested, four who were found inside the houses and the other two who tried to escape. A 19-year-old boy, who was one of the detainees, was convicted as criminally responsible for a continuing crime of supplying narcotic substances and with a crime of possessing the storage of weapons and ammunition.
He was sentenced to three years and four months in prison, while the other convicted person, aged 18, was criminalized as supplying narcotics and sentenced to three years' imprisonment. The other four detainees have not yet been tried with penalties for offences.
Drug Burning Record
The Ministry of the Interior reported that last Thursday it carried out a “record drug burn”, in the context of several raids that accumulated several kilos of narcotic drugs. According to data provided by the security portfolio, 7,940 kilos of substances considered as drugs were burned.
Of that amount of destroyed drugs, 5,810 kilos were of base paste and cocaine and 2,130 kilos were marijuana. Sources from the Ministry of the Interior indicated that this is the third major drug burn that has been carried out by this administration, emphasized reported. Chemists from the Technical Forensic Institute (ITF) and scribes from the Ministry of Public Health worked in the action.
On May 11, 2020, former Minister of the Interior Jorge Larrañaga, recently deceased, announced the burning of 7.5 tons of seized cocaine. The drugs destroyed on that occasion were the product of large shipments of drugs seized and were also incinerated by personnel of the Forensic Technical Institute.
As at that time, with regard to information about the drug that would be burned, it was decided to remain silent and the burning was carried out with absolute reserve to prevent safety risks during the transfer of the substance.
