Washington, 24 Mar US President Joe Biden will travel this Friday to Poland, the country that has received the highest number of Ukrainian refugees after the Russian invasion, where he will visit the town of Rzeszów, near the Ukrainian border, the White House reported. The US president will travel directly to that Polish city from Brussels, the first stop of his European trip, and will be met by Polish President Andrzej Duda in the early afternoon. There he will be informed about the humanitarian response to accommodate the growing number of Ukrainian refugees arriving at the border, according to the presidential agenda. Biden will then meet with members of the 82nd Airborne Military Division of the US Armed Forces, displaced to the area to reinforce NATO's eastern flank. Rzeszów, with nearly 200,000 inhabitants, is the main city in southeastern Poland and is just an hour's drive from the Ukrainian border. Subsequently, Biden will fly to the Polish capital, Warsaw, where he will continue his schedule on Saturday before flying back to Washington. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began a month ago, has led to a movement of refugees in Europe that has not been seen since the Second World War: there are already 3.6 million people, but the number continues to rise. Of these, Poland is the main recipient, where 2,175,000 have arrived, and of which around 1.2 million still remain in the country, while the rest have moved to other European countries, especially Germany.
