Before Ricardo Gareca did not lead the World Cup Russia 2018, a total of 20 coaches went on the bench without success. The 'tiger' could repeat the feat he achieved in 2017 and make us qualify for the second time in a row after 36 years.

Before Gareca arrived at the Videna offices in 2015, the last coach he had achieved with the goal of leading the Peruvian team to the World Cup was Edua Palma Lima, also known as Tim. With it we achieved the qualification for the World Cup in Spain 82 without knowing that it would be the last successful process in which we would participate in a long time.

However, it should be noted that of the 20 coaches who came after Tim to lead the white and red, only four had the opportunity to lead the entire national team process, as the others were for shorter periods of time and could not be there for the full four years between each World Cup. as if the 'tiger' could do it from 2015 to 2018 and is repeating it right now as we prepare to face the last two matches for Qatar 2022 Qualifiers.

In addition to Ricardo Gareca, the other four technicians who led the selection during a complete process were: Vladimir Popovic for the United States 1994, Juan Carlos Oblitas for France 1998, Chemo del Solar for South Africa 2010 and Sergio Markarian for Brazil 2014.

NEXT MATCHES OF THE NATIONAL TEAM

Today began the last double date of the World Cup Qualifiers. These are the last two chances that those led by Ricardo Gareca have to get the ticket that will open the doors of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which is why both matches are experienced as a final.

The first is today against the Uruguayan national team at 6:30pm (local time) at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo. Despite being a visitor, the Peruvian fans are making themselves feel like they are local, as thousands of Peruvians have traveled to the Uruguayan capital with the sole objective of encouraging our national team.

The last match with which we close our participation in these qualifiers will be against the Paraguayan national team and in this one we will be local next Tuesday, March 29 at the Estadio Nacional de Lima at 6:30 (local time). This is the last chance that the selected ones will have to score points and get the ranking, so the excitement will be at its peak.
